Movie Review: It's Lovely to Hear the Moody Blues again
Summary: 5 Stars

Justin Hayward, John Lodge, and Graeme Edge, the remaining members of the legendary Moody Blues, put on a fabulous show at the Greek in L.A. They perform some seldom-heard songs, such as "The Actor," "Are You Sitting Comfortably," "December Snow," and "Forever Autumn." This is a must-CD for those who have attended a Moodys concert in the past two years, since the retirement of Ray Thomas, because flautist Norda Mullen and other supporting musicians bring a renewed richness to the tunes. For a group that has been around for more than 40 years, the Moody Blues still create an exciting and electric performance.

Movie Review: Tired and Thin
Summary: 3 Stars

Having seen the Moody Blues the same summer as this album's tour and recording, I must say that they are a mere shadow of their former greatness. A second drummer, two keyboards, and female ooo-waaahhh singers? the rich melodic underpinnings are still there but one has to wonder what the guy on stage left is doing...playing recordings of old Mellotron tracks or Patrick Moraz's lush instrumentation? and since when does Graeme need help with his drumming? John and Justin still rock with all the old favorites but the stage show is identical from one tour to the next with John even throwing out the same lines and Justin/John strutting around on stage in the exact same manner that they did for the same song the year before or several years ago with their Albert Hall concert. if the MBs want this old fan to be excited, bring back a single competent keyboardist, and flautist. forget the back up singers. write some dazzling new material and focus on it. pare the group down to 5 musicians again. one loves to hear the old favs, but after a while, they sound tired and thin.

Movie Review: WHAT THE DUECE?!
Summary: 1 Stars

I am a fan of these people and their music for almost 40 years. This is one of the most horribly produced cd's I've ever heard. The sound quality and production is akin to someone getting the approval to market their own recording that was made with a cheap cassette recorder. Whomever mastered this recording did a really, really poor job. The box is nice though. No justice was done to this group.

Movie Review: It's the Moody Blues live...again
Summary: 4 Stars

Like the live Cream package, this too comes across as a MONEY thing...a big business deal. No new album, just play the old tunes for the "old" fans. Yuck! The songs are classic and sound very nice, as they should, because they tour this cabaret act all over the world. Don't get me wrong, I love this band but I'd feel different if it was to promote new songs, but it's all just...nostalgia.

I HAVE AN IDEA, LET'S GET LODGE, HAYWARD AND EDGE TO DO A NEW ALBUM WITH MIKE PINDER AND RAY THOMAS, OUT IN GOOD OL' CALIFORNIA FOR ABOUT A MONTH. THEN, WHILE THEY'RE ALL TOGETHER, TAPE A FEW "REUNION" SHOWS LIKE CREAM DID IN 2005. THEN WE'RE TALKING REAL MOODIES EXCITEMENT.

On a side note, my other favorite "classic" rock band Deep Purple, do have a NEW album "Rapture of the Deep" and it truly delivers! Live in studio recordings from a legendary band on fire. Giving the musical world one of the finest albums of 2005. Bravo DP!

What will sadden me is that the media will promote this recycled memory-madness from Cream and perhaps the Moodies as well, but completely ignore the NEW and innovative Purple CD. Go figure.

Talk about the state of the "art"

Movie Review: Their best live cd?
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to say that I think this is the best live Moody Blues cd out. The band has never sounded better. The fact that they are playing without an orchestra has breathed some new life into their songs. In addition to some classics, there is the addition of songs like "Forever Autumn" and "The Actor", two of my favorites. "Are You Sitting Comfortably" is also a nice surprise. The sound quality is top notch. If one was to get only one live Moodies cd, this without question would be the one to get.
