Movie Reviews of The Monster Squad (Two-Disc 20th Anniversary Edition)

Movie Review: Fun if you can watch it like you're still a kid
Summary: 4 Stars

This is not citizen kane, or wuthering heights, this is the monster squad. A kid movie where kids fight all kinds of monsters. The jokes are funy, the kids cute, and the story obvious. But it is one incredibly fun ride, and well worth a look. Fans of the lost boys, or even the sandlot will should put this in their collection.

Movie Review: Cool 80s Retro...But...Language...Laguage...Not For Little Kids
Summary: 4 Stars

I really liked this movie. Being from the 80s myself, it's refreshing to see the kinda stereotypical dialogue and approach to topics that these movies took. Yes...there's teen smoking, adult smoking, marriage trouble, wiseass cops and kids spying in on the girl next door and we even touch on virginity, homophobism and bullies. And that's the main problem with this movie. It's a movie that really cannot be shown to 5-8 year olds now although they would enjoy it. The strong language is really unnecessary and unfortunate. This movie is more appropriate for pre-teen/teen crowds and these have largely moved on to modern shock horror trash. I can see why they took so long to release this on DVD...it is kinda in the neverneverland of cool 80s movies when we weren't all so politically correct or jaded but has no real target audience today.

I wish someone had warned me about the language and sexuality though as I was planning to show this movie to my 5-7 soccer team for Scary Movie Night.

Movie Review: Movie from the past
Summary: 5 Stars

Loved this movie when I first saw it in 1989 at a Halloween slumber party. Brings back memories. Special features where pretty good, Just curious about what happened to the other kids in the monster squad.

Movie Review: A Halloween Treat With Plenty Of Tricks!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a brilliantly conceived movie that quickly worms it's way into your heart and stays there long after the screen has dimmed. A family fright fest that will enchant the little ones and soften the older crustier ones as well. Has it really been twenty years? I Still find it hard to believe that they did it all in 80 minutes. Modern Directors could learn a lot about story telling from this wonderful little film.
