Movie Reviews of The Money PitMovie Review: The short line is for farm vehicles... Summary: 5 Stars
Although this movie was pretty much universally panned, it remains one of my favorite comedies. It doesn't get the credit it deserves for the slapstick scenes where the house literally crumbles around Tom Hanks. Everyone I know that has seen this movie has lost it completely when the stairs come down. Not to mention the constant sarcasm of Tom Hanks' character. His reply to his real estate agent's question of "Can you get $250,000 by close of business Friday?" is met with the answer "Well, let me see, if I sell everything I own I might be able to buy you lunch.", for example. That is just one of many great lines delivered, including the one above from Shelley Long. This movie always cracks me up and is great for anyone who has ever hit their hand with a hammer by accident.
Movie Review: A Truly Funny Movie Summary: 5 Stars
Go ahead and buy this one. The movie is an absolute riot. Anyone who has ever looked at a home improvement project and thought, "piece of cake", will probably need to wear Depends while watching this movie. There are so many great lines in this movie that they just keep cropping up in my life. All I need to say to my wife is, "maybe a little dinner, some dancing, that's it" and she's on the floor. There is one "conflict" scene that I think the movie could've done without, but what do I know, I'm only a viewer. But it does give a setup for a great plasterer line. If you have "weak trees", bad plumbing, or any of a plethora of other home adventures you will enjoy this movie. Recommended with absolutely no reservations.
Movie Review: Hilarious Summary: 5 Stars
One of the overlooked comedy classics, with Tom Hanks at his pre-Oscar best and Shelley Long matching him. Snappy writing and great one-liners makes this a movie you'll be quoting often. If you ever do any home improvement project, you'll find yourself muttering, "Two weeks!" over and over. Also makes a great gag gift for anyone about to buy or renovate a house.
Note to Amazon: your internal review has factual errors. A major plot point is that Hanks' and Long's characters are NOT married, and she is not "attracted to a long-haired violinist" - he is a snobby conductor and her ex-husband, to whom she is NOT attracted anymore. It is difficult to take the reviewer's opinion seriously when he's so far off the mark on basic plot points.
Movie Review: That infectious, INSANE laugh! Summary: 5 Stars
If you want to hear a great, unbridled laugh...get this movie. It is literally one of the funniest movies. Tom Hanks nails the concept of comedic timing. He is so great at expressing annoyance, delerium, anger, jealousy, skeptiscm, and pride.
This movie follows Tom Hanks and girlfriend (Shelly Long) through their tumultuous ordeal of renovating a "lemon" of a seemingly beautiful mansion. There is a classic scene where the tub falls through the ceiling onto the 1st floor and that is where the hysteria really starts. But my favorite scene is when Tom Hanks gets stuck in the floor and starts talking about care bears and farm animals. Classic!
Anyhow, you will not go wrong in getting this movie, it is a kick in the pants!
Movie Review: Outrageously Funny Summary: 5 Stars
I give this movie 8 Stars! To find a movie that brings joy, laughter, hope, enduring love and able to laugh at oneself and life and bring some reality to it is truly wonderful!! I laughed so much from beginning to end. I found myself there with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long - working it together, even when apart for those few moments. I shut out the world and allowed some laughter to reign inside my home while watching this movie. It was both real and quirky, but at the same time it gave me inspiration and my own hope that no matter how bad things may get, there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it is possible for love to endure amongst the chaos of the world. It's part of my movie library along with other greats.
