Movie Reviews of The Money Pit

Movie Review: It's all about Commitment!
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely adored this movie. I am normally not a fan of movies where everything goes completely wrong for the decent, "good" characters of the film, but this one had a meaningful plot in which hit me each and everytime something terrible happened to Tom Hanks' character and his girlfriend in their new LEMON house. It was all about commitment. They had every right to be screaming and yelling at each other for getting into the situation that they were in. Yet, the didn't. They stood by each other when the bathtub (and the bed) fell through the floor, the kitchen blew up, the roof leaked, the staircase crashed and so on. The only thing that damaged their relationship was when Tom Hank's girlfriend told him that she slept with her ex-husband. Which is completely understandable. Being a woman, that would be the one thing that I couldn't forgive the man that I was with, for doing. However, regardless of that, they realized that being together was more important than not being together. All of this takes place as their "lemon" house is being rebuilt. As is their relationship. The writers of "The Money Pit" are intelligent and remarkable and have my complete confidence and respect.

Movie Review: Classic, Classic Tom Hanks
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife and I have seen this movie MANY times and we laugh harder each time we see it. This movie must be a cult classic, mainly because if we act out a piece of a scene or speak a line from it (as we often do) many people are 'in' on the joke having seen it repeatedly themselves. Alexander Gudenov really steals the scenes that he's in portraying Shelly Long's ex-husband/Symphony conductor. I love it when he admonishes the orchestra at lunchtime after a lackluster rehearsal and tells the members to '...go stuff yourselves, I hope you choke!' (in that wonderful accent).
I highly reccommend this film to anyone, especially if you own a house. Those laughing the loudest will have had home repair experience I'm sure. Tom Hanks at his funniest. You won't be dissapointed!

Favorite moments:

bathtub scene (with pop-up thermometer in the turkey)
raccoon scene
The Shirk brothers contractors
All of the Alexander Gudenov scenes
'The Cheap Girls' band
borrowing money from 'Benny'
Hanks and Long fighting in front of the contractors

.....the list goes on......

Movie Review: How? Why? Insane?
Summary: 5 Stars

How can critics bash this movie? I was going through a box of old video tapes and found this movie, which I have not seen in years and it just struck me again... I literally toppledover and couldn't stop laughing. The Money Pit is missunderstood to be a horrible movie by critics alike, however, they are so wrong.

I miss this version of Tom Hanks. He ALWAYS used to be in comedies and had a special nack for them. I mean, let's face it, when that scene came up where the bathub shattered all over the floor beneath him and he looked at for a second or two, coming to the realization of what just happened and then he starts laughing.... I seriously nearly died of laughter. Not only that, but when he accidently hit his thumb with the hammer and his reaction to the pain.... hilarious.

Anyway, DO NOT listen to the critics! This movie is on TV frequently. If you catch it, sit down, watch it, and have a good laugh!

Movie Review: Tom Hanks at his comedic best
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't believe this movie is 25 years old. The best thing about it, though, is that EVERY time I watch it, I laugh out loud. Very few movies have done that for me, and if I knew how to get in touch with Mr. Hanks, I would personally thank him.

Surrounded with a cast of characters that are every homeowners' repair nightmare, Hanks and Shelly Long attempt to revive a lemon of a mansion. The movie is worth every penny if just for "the kitchen scene" and "Tom on the scaffold".

I really don't want to give more away, than to assure all who might have not seen this gem, or, know Tom Hanks only as "Forrest Gump" or from "Sleepless in Seattle", that in the early and mid-eighties Hanks showed a comic genius streak that I wish he would try to retrieve once more.
