Movie Reviews of The Moment After - DVD

Movie Review: Scary, but not in the way it was originally intended
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been trying to figure out why I had such a ho-hum reaction to this film ...

-- It has a slower, TV-murder-mystery pace: Yes.

-- It lacks all the mega-mucho-exciting Hollywood special effects: Yes.

-- It explores a topic (the rapture) that's been done before, Done before, DONE before: Yes.

On the back cover it says: "A Biblical Suspense Thriller," but I felt neither thrills, nor suspense, at any time while watching this movie. I mean, come on -- after watching all those OTHER rapture movies (Left Behind, Omega Code, Gone, Apocalypse, etc.), we already KNOW what's gonna happen, right? People disappear. Everyone's upset. Nobody knows what's going on. The world has changed for the worse & it changed FAST. The good guys are bad & the bad guys are good. Etc. Etc. Etc.

(yawn)

I did enjoy all the different rapture "stories"/"vignettes" (because every person/family has their own story, amen?) & I got all teary-eyed at all the critical moments, but, for me at least, that was the best part of the movie & the rest was anticlimactic & I couldn't wait for it to end.

Which is not to say that the movie was especially bad -- perhaps I'm just jaded & have seen too many rapture movies already? Because someone who's never seen a rapture movie before might actually enjoy this.

In closing, here's the final reason the movie seemed ho-hum to me:

Because all the supposedly scary technology portrayed in the movie was very TODAY (rather than being a remote, futuristic possibility). Biometrics? Already here. GPS? Here. Tracking? Here. Surveillance? Here. Databases? Here. There was nothing in the movie that can't be done today.

(ho hum)

Now THAT'S scary.

Movie Review: Let your light shine before men...
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this series. It delivers a great story line and still gets the message of Christ across without seeming too preachy. It is difficult to do a series like this and make it good. It's easy to get too preachy but this balances great characters with the Word of God. I love the friendship between David and Kevin, they are dedicated in their friendship but are torn between two sides. Oh and then there is Jacob Krause. It's interesting to see Brad play this character after playing the psychopath in SIX. Seeing how Brad played his character is what I believe Christians should act. Open, honest, dependant on God, trusting on God, and delivering His Word to the lost people and knowing this is not about us, His plan is so bigger than any of us. Bravo to them for this movie.

I HAVE BOTH MOVIES BUT....

WHEN WILL THEIR BE A THIRD!

Movie Review: Good rapture movie
Summary: 4 Stars

"The Moment After" was a good portrayal of the Rapture and its immediate aftermath. It dealt with the subject on more of a personal impact level instead of the worldwide impact. The Jewish character was a neat touch. I thought the (somewhat vague) reference to the mark of the beast was questionable, as the people who received it didn't really know what it meant, but maybe that's how it will be...I don't know. It was a good start to what could be a good series of films.

Movie Review: Jew for Jesus
Summary: 4 Stars

I watched The Moment After on UCB Tv yesterday. I enjoyed it greatly, very simply done. It filled my heart with joy to see the Rabbi become a believer. I haven't seen anything that shows that before. It is happening people, Jewish people are becoming 'completed'-what they were always meant to be. Halleujah! Another sign of the times. I've just ordered a copy for my fellowship to watch.

Movie Review: Makes You Think
Summary: 4 Stars

Similar to other "end of times" movies yet different. This one focuses more on one of the 144,000 chosen who are supposed to appear. Acceptable for young children although it will probably bring lots of questions (it was a great tool for discussion of what scripture prophesies and who/why some disappear while others do not).
