Movie Reviews of The MistMovie Review: defying stereotypes Summary: 5 Stars
This movie absolutely blew me away.
I've been a horror movie fan for years, and movies like It and Sleepwalkers scared the bejesus out of me. But it seems that over time, the horror movie genre has either gotten more stale by the second, or I've just seen so many that I'm jaded as hell.
The Mist REALLY lived up to my expectations of good horror. The first thing that made me like it was there was NO SEX ANYWHERE in this movie! Hollywood has gotten it in it's head that sex sells a movie, but everytime I've ever watched a movie with copius amounts of grunge in it (take the newer dawn of the dead movie, for example) with friends, we all just cringe. This movie had NONE of that. It also spared us the obligatory big boobed blonde chick running up a set of stairs or hiding in the closet. That was my first yay.
After that, it only continued to get better. The entire movie enthralls you as you watch the disintegrating social structure when so many people ar eput together. I felt this was highly true to human nature. The monsters were the glam of the movie, sure, but the real horror was in watching the people. With the zealot going off, and what happened to several of the characters ( namely the soldier later on) was absolutely terrifying for me to watch. I haven't been this enthralled with a movie since I was young. I didn't want to get up to pee it was that good. The whole movie, the mist, coupled with Dead Can Dance's song " Host of Serephim" just made for a haunting, frightening world in which these characters had to live through.
The ending goes without saying. I prayed for " not another it's a dream" ending, and this movie delivered. My husband and I were SO HORRIFIED by the ending we could hardly beleive they allowed it to be produced-but the ending was the biggest horror of all, and threw me for such a loop there was no way I could call it conventional, or even expected. I was blindsided by this leap from normal Hollywood endings, and that thrilled me.
Five stars. This movie kicked major tail.
Movie Review: You don't want to know what lurks in the mist... Summary: 5 Stars
I thought that this movie was a lot of fun! There was the usual mayhem that arises very quickly when people are trapped in one place together, within a day or two in books and movies they start acting crazy and give aliens and monsters reasons to mock us, for trying to end our lives when things go wrong or there is no way out. Well this was no exception, when a small Maine town ( hey it's a King story, of course it's in Maine) gets enveloped in a thick, cloying mist, those fortunate enough who have escaped early can wave goodbye to their friends and family members because something strange is happening and the chances of any survivors are glum.
When David Drayton and his son make a quick trip to the supermarket for supplies after an electrical storm, they have no idea that the store will be their salvation and damnation at the same time. Once the store door closes and the fog closes in, screams in the distance tell everyone that this is no ordinary case of bad weather, not only is it mysterious but it houses creepy creatures that honestly scared and shocked me. The first time David encounters the blood hungry things in the mist is an unforgettable experience, paranoia adds another layer of terror as people who don't believe him need to see it for themselves and that is the beginning of the end. This horror flick was a lot of fun but also kept me in great suspense for almost the entire time, a little draining but worth it except I don't recommend getting too attached to any characters....some of them didn't last very long, and the ways their last moments ended were truly excruciating.
The movie was pretty fast paced; the acting realistic enough and the creatures were not all CG, so that was refreshing. Highly recommended for lovers of suspense and terror and of course banging endings, this one was shocking and quite honestly very raw, almost painful in a strange way when no amount of relief the ending brought could erase the events that perspired before the last minutes.

Movie Review: SUPERB! Summary: 5 Stars
Simply excellent for those that like these type movies....even if you dont like these type movies, you may still love it......
Simply superb.
For those that did not care for the ending all I can say is the ending is what made this film a 5 star instead of a 4 star.
This is not a 'happy movie'.....It was not suppsed to have a 'happy' ending. What if they had not had that ending and instead the gas runs out or they keep driving until they clear the mist and then see the army and all the people and they are saved?
An ending like that would have left most sort of dangling in the ind not really sure what to make of it.....
Some questioned why they 'fought so hard to survive but then gave up at the very end'....Folks, that is what made this movie a 5 star movie. Yes, they did fight hard to survive and that is what makes the ending STUNNING...it made the entire movie!
Think of the irony in that they did fight hard but finally realized they were better off dying on their terms rather then in some horrible way. I would do the same to my son if my choices were to put a bullet in his head or let him die a ghastly and painful death.
Then after killing everybody and with no more bullets, he decides to let the 'monsters in the mist' kill him...only to see if he had waited 5 more minutes, the world was saved and there was no reason to kill themselves. Imagine the horror the dad must have felt...
That is what they wanted in this movie....A stunningly dramatic ending that fit the tone of the movie and that is exactly what we got......A better ending then the book, although I still liked the book and certainly a far better ending then if they were all saved.
It was the perfect ending to a film of this type......a happy ending would not have fit and I for one was thrilled with the ending as not many films end and make you go "WOW...IF ONLY".....
SUPERB MOVIE!! SUPERB ENDING!!!
Movie Review: It Takes A Lot To Scare Me..."The Mist" Terrified Me Summary: 5 Stars
I am beginning my overall review by saying that yes, the monsters are scary as hell, but the people trapped in the supermarket by the monsters are even scarier. A religious nut, Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden) persuades the unfortuneate trapped people that the mist is an act of god, and they basically go absolutely crazy, paying sacrifices.
The scariest scene is when the brain-washed religious people are attacking Amanda (Laurie Holden) and the young boy (Nathan Gamble). It is so terrifying and incredibly scary and gut-wrenchingly sad at the same time.
The effects are so great and scary. The monsters are wonderfully terrifying, and the scenes with the monsters are really scary, especially in the back of the store in the loading dock. It is so terrifying, and you will be on the edge of your seat, screaming in terror the entire time.
What I loved most about this movie is that there were so many terrifying scenes that I actually didn't believe that there could be that many in a single horror flick. It was really great and scary, and they were actually really, really terrifying.
Along with horror and bloody brilliant scenes, there are humurous scenes, like when an old woman, Irene (Frances Sternhagen) combines bug spray and fire to kill a horde of spiders. It's brilliant and very, very humurous in so many aspects.
The only (yes, ONLY) flaw with this movie is that the ending was terrible. It was unexpected, didn't explain anything, yet it was so heart-breakingly sad at the same time. It basically left you hanging, and still had you guessing, which is what should happen during the movie, not in the final scene.
Otherwise, Stephen King's The Mist is a terrifying, edge-of-your-seat thrill ride that will leave you thrilled, terrified, shocked and engaged throughout the entire time. It is a must-see movie, and is easily the scariest movie of 2007 so far.
Movie Review: The Mist Summary: 5 Stars
After a strong storm in the Maine area, the local artist Dave Drayton drives from his house nearby the lake to the supermarket with his son Billy and his arrogant neighbor, the lawyer Brent Norton, to get supplies. Along their way, they see a heavy mist and later, military convoys, police and firefighter trucks, ambulances heading toward it. While in the supermarket, a frantic bleeding local arrives crying that there is something alive in the mist and the manager closes the entrance door while the place is encased by the mist. When David, another client and two employees go to the back of the store to start the generator, they open the back-door and the cashier Norm is hold and dragged by fierce tentacles. David and the two survivors succeed to close the loading door, and when they tell the people what happened, Brent does not trust on his words and believes it is a prank and the God-fearing woman Mrs. Carmody preaches the Apocalypse and that she is the vessel of Lord on Earth. Sooner the group discovers that they are under siege of blood thirsty creatures from another dimension that have reached our planet through a window open by a failed military research. Further, the crazy Mrs. Carmody has many followers and is becoming dangerous and dangerous in her speeches. Without alternative, a small group leaded by David decides to take the chance to escape from the supermarket and reach his car, hoping to get out of the mist. "The Mist" works as well as a traditional horror movie, with several genuinely scary sequences. This is a masterful suspense/monster movie that puts an ensemble cast into the untenable situation of being in a deteriorating situation they cannot escape from. Highly recommended.
