Movie Reviews of The Missouri Breaks

Movie Review: A Great Adventure
Summary: 5 Stars

Please totally ignore Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide negative review of this supurb movie. Great cast, high adventure, wonderful script, fine acting. Among Marlon's best. Don't miss this one.

Movie Review: Great scenery.
Summary: 4 Stars

Well, there really were livestock thieves back then, and they really were hanged or shot for their trouble. They really did consider rustling to be a viable career choice.

I thought the mood of the enterprise that Nicholson's character and friends carried on was about right. Brando seemed to overdo it, but "regulators" or hired guns weren't exactly the junior exec type either.

This is not a western or cowboy movie that small kids should watch. There are hangings and public displays of corpses in it.

Movie Review: Not a great Western movie, but, definitely worth watching
Summary: 3 Stars

In the first place, I don't call this a western movie (though it was supposed to be that way). So, if you want to watch this movie simply remove the thought from your mind that this is a western movie and then watch it.

Jack Nicholson was definitely miscast in this movie - as he has no "acting" role, if I may. The movie begins to really move the minute Marlon Brando enters the movie. I have read lot of reviews wrongfully calling his potrayal, as the "Regulator", as superficial with lots of over acting. That's just absurd. The character that Brando plays is supposed to be wild and wacky - which he plays without any blemish. As the movie keeps rolling the "Regulator"'s character becomes very intriguing - thanks to the sheer genius of Mr. Brando. This part was willfully played that way - to make that character very psychotic and insane. Though I do have to admit that his Irish accent is not as good, unlike his previous potrayal as an Irish gardener in "The Nightcomers". Mr. Brando, as always, makes his charaterization of the "Regulator" very unique and extremely interesting.

Every other actor (suprisingly, including, Jack Nicholson) is an absentee. This is a must for all Brando fans if not for all western movie fans... either way, don't miss this movie

Movie Review: Very interesting play between Brando & Nicholson.
Summary: 3 Stars

Brando & Nicholson give interesting performances. Plot is a little weak, but it isn't boring and it certainly isn't the worst film ever made as one critic would have you believe. In my opinion it's one of the better western movies made and well worth seeing.
