Movie Reviews of The Miracle WorkerMovie Review: I will never forget Summary: 5 Stars
What Helen Keller did, is the way I did as a deaf child. I was mad at world for not understanding what I am speaking or letting my words out. But when Helen said a word "water" and hugged teacher, I smiled and cried softly. It does remind the reason why I call my teacher "ma". She was the one who been by my side thru all school (grade 1-12) teaching me all words and examples like Helen Keller's teacher did. I even got discplined if I was wilded out. She thought I was her daughter even thru she a white deaf teacher, I am black. I even went to her house and everything.
I can't stop recording and watching that dvd over again...I will never sell it! It is like my own history. (Sighing) I surely like it and am glad I got it.
Movie Review: Great for Kids Summary: 5 Stars
This review specifically addresses viewing by children, in response to an earlier review by a teacher who found that her students had difficulty watching the movie. I have only used an N of one (my daughter), so this is anecdotal, but she is six years old and we just rented The Miracle Worker this weekend, and she loved it so much she asked me to purchase a copy, which is why I am on the site today. We did talk during the movie to process what was going on, but she was thoroughly enthralled and really got it, including the larger commentary on how society sees the handicapped. By far and away, this beats the MaryKateAshleyHilary stuff out there that's targeted at young girls. I highly recommend this for family viewing!
Movie Review: The Miracle Worker Summary: 5 Stars
The Miracle Worker, is an autobiography of Helen Keller. Anne Brancroft (Anne Sullivan) stars as the brilliant, compassionate teacher of the deaf and blind student, Patty Duke (Helen). This is a fantastic movie which provides insight into the modalities by which children learn and are taught. Not until Anne could help Helen understand the connection between the word "water" and its meaning could she begin to teach her that words represented a concept. This is a 5 star movie that every teacher and parent should see as it offers a glimpse into how learning begins for some who have great difficulties in beginning to understand the process until they involve their eyes, hands, kinesthectic and touch modalities.
Movie Review: Humanity Summary: 5 Stars
THE MIRACLE WORKER is a terrific film of the splendor of human potential. Anne Bancroft gives a marvelous portrayal of the young Anne Sullivan -- the woman who literally and figuratively leads Helen Keller out of the darkness. The gifted (and underrated) Patty Duke plays Helen Keller with sensitivity and depth.
The movie is an intimate study of the ultimate worth of any individual and how one person can make a difference in the life of another.
The direction by Arthur Penn is excellent. It is one of the few movies of this type that does not get swamped with sentimentality. It is a film that stands up to numerous viewings.
Movie Review: Papa!!! she knows! Summary: 5 Stars
To me there is only one version of The Miracle Worker and this is it! This is a brilliant film with a cast that is more than just impressive. Patty Duke as Hellen Keller is the best that the screen has very seen and Ann Bancroft as Anna is super remarkable and gives a few light moments to this very heavy drama. This film will tug at every emotion and if you don't cry out of happyness at the end of this film (papa she knows) there is something wrong with you. Also note that this film is in beautiful black and white which adds so much to the film and please don't forget the wonderful background music score. It will give you chills.
