Movie Reviews of The Miracle Worker

Movie Review: The Movie's title says it all.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of those rare movies that I could watch once a day if I had the time. Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke (as well as the entire rest of the cast) give just flawless performances in this film.

The story of Helen Keller is one of the most inspirational stories ever told. It's inspirational for teachers, students, people with obvious infirmities and those with less than obvious infirmities. Because of the talented portrayals of the characters in this real-life drama, people are able to witness that with the help of a fine teacher infirmities can be miracles in of themselves.

I gave this movie as a gift to my niece, who is an avid Helen Keller fan and, at the age of 9, had no idea that there was a movie about her. So I sent her this film, one of my all-time favorites and she is now just as big a fan of this film now as I have been since I first saw it. I highly recommend this film to everyone.

Movie Review: Great story and it really happened!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Miracle Worker [Anne Bancroft, Patty Duke]
A little girl , Helen Keller(Duke), is blind, deaf and mute. And spoiled, stubborn
and destructive. Along comes Annie Sullivan( Bancroft) a 20 yr old teacher from Boston, once
blind herself, to tutor somehow little Helen into a semblance of normalcy. You must
see this movie. To see Helen running down the lawn rotating with arms extended as
she runs(a personal anti-collision "radar") will stay in your mind forever. A Duke
masterpiece. And it worked out! Helen graduated from Radcliffe in 1904.

My wife and I liked it so much we sought out and bought the Miracle Worker DVD with
Duke as Annie and Melissa Gilbert. We treasure them both, for once a re-make
did not ruin the story but enriched it.

Movie Review: A compelling movie.
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the most dynamic and compelling movies of all time. It showed how those who love you can unintentially hender a child's ability to learn and become independant with a disability. A parents need to protect their child may overpower their judgement to do what's in the best interest of their child at times. Helen parents knew they needed to do something to help their daughter, because the only other option was to send her to an institution. That was more than they could bare, so Anne, a half-blind teacher was hired to help Helen. Even though it was hard for Helen's parents to accept Anne's methods of teaching, they knew deep down inside, she was their last hope. This movie was very moving and made me cry for joy. For I too know as a parent the fears, hopes, and love you have for your child with a disability.

Movie Review: A Brilliant Film comes to DVD!
Summary: 5 Stars

It is about time this great film comes to DVD! From the opening scenes to it's magnificent ending this is one of the best films ever made! Shot in black and white with the sparest of sets and decoration it is all about the engrossing screenplay and the staggering performances of Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke. Both actresses took home Academy Awards and they richly deserved them! The DVD version is wonderful and far superior from the VHS version. Anyone interested in the early years of one of America's National Treasures, Helen Keller or anyone interested in a great film with magnificent performances shouldn't miss this one! It only proves, once again that a great film doesn't have to have blood and gore, naked writhing bodies or sinking luxury liners to rise head and shoulders above all the rest!

Movie Review: The Miracle Worker
Summary: 5 Stars

As an older black and white movie, this one is excellent for reminding the viewer of what the disabled did go through in many cases back around the turn of the 1900s.

I got so thoroughly engrossed in this movie that I wished it had gone further into the relationship between Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller. I read about Helen Keller when I was a child but hers is a story that has all but vanished from view, from the mind, in our "progressive" times. Helen's story, and that of Annie Sullivan herself, should be brought back into the spot light to remind people of the many things that have changed for the positive in terms of life and its outcomes for the disabled.

The movie itself was well packaged and shipped very fast, even to my very northern address.
