Movie Reviews of The Miracle Match

Movie Review: the game of their lives was just that
Summary: 5 Stars

I found the dvd a while back and have watched it several times since. I have to admit I actually bought it because of Gerard Butler as I have all of this spectacular actors movies, but after watching the movie for about twenty minutes I forgot about Gerard and got in the game. By the time they played against England I was on the edge of my seat. My grandson is a very good soccer player and loves the game. He's 12 years old and thoroughly enjoyed this movie. So can somebody please tell me what to heck is wrong with the US film industry these days? When I see some of the junk they're putting out for great movies today it makes me glad that some very ingenius person came up with the DVD player so that I can watch real movies. Not only are the movies junk but where are the sophisticated critics that at one time knew how to really critique a decent movie. I know that this is a pretty long review but I read all the others and so far everyone seems to agree with me on this matter and I just had to make sure I didn't leave anything out.

Movie Review: Great Soccer Movie - great 50's feel
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the better soccer movies I've seen. It has great soccer footage, drama, humor, and conflict. The story is an account of one of the highlight games of the 1950 World Cup, and it also shows the weeks leading up to that game as the underdog US players prepare for it.

This movie does a great job of establishing the feel of the 1950's (...at least how I imagine it to be). Most of the soccer game footage is well filmed. Even though the movie is an ensemble piece, the individual characters are quickly developed. It's fun to see Gerard Butler (before he was a major star) as the US goalkeeper. Real footage from the 2004 MLS All-star game shows some of those real-life team members 54 years later. And watch out for former US Pro Player John Harkes - he has a small supporting role in the movie!

Movie Review: Extremely engrossing story
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD for sometime now. The only store that even had it in stock was Best Buy, and I paid $25 to get it. It was worth every penny. It was not even stocked on the new releases rack. A rabid Gerard Butler fan, once again he did not disappoint me. This man is so underrated. This is truly a wonderful, heroic story of a group of men who came together to beat the mighty English team in the first round of the 1950 World Cup. The entire cast was amazing. I am bewildered by the fact that this movie had limited release at the theatres and next to zero advertising. Same is true for the DVD release. There is so much [..] at the movie theatres and out on dvd, yet this gem has been entirely overlooked. What a travesty. I highly recommend this film.

Movie Review: The Miracle Match
Summary: 5 Stars

..."The Miracle Match" is another Gerard Butler film that i purchased in order to get a closer look at this amazing actor's theatrical range--i was quite please...very credible acting on all who participated in this film--i just couldnt get into the actor that played Patrick Stewart's part as a younger man...but other than that, the performances were natural and a compliment to the men being portrayed...and although there were other "big name" actors in this film, everyone is on the same page in making the viewer believe this larger than life piece of sport history...there wasnt a whole lot of unnecessary "lets just focus on this one or that one", just a simple formula of how a group of friends beat the odds of being labled not good enough...and that my friend, was good enough for me...

Movie Review: Gerard Butler RULES...
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is phenomenal....any sports lover, whether you like soccer (football) or not, whether you are a sports fan or not, will love this "feel good" movie...you will come away with a heartfelt smile. The movie should have been shown in a wide market when it came out in the theaters rather than in a limited market. I'm glad the DVD was finally realeased. Gerry Butler's portrayal of legendary goalie, Frank Borghi is worth the price of the film, Butler is AMAZING...Of course, I am probably his most arden fan, but the movie would have been good even if he had not been part of it.

With all aside, the movie is a wonderful family movie, and a must for all soccer fans, young, old, international or domestic.
