The kids classic The Mighty Ducks does everything right; case-end-point, Although there is much to be said for this beloved Disney tale.
Gordon Bombay(Emilio Estevez) was once a boy who loved hockey more then anything, when his father passes away and he loses the final shot for his team and their pee-wee championship he's scarred for life, and turns to a dark future as a no-good defense lawyer. When he gets court mandated community service to coach a pee-wee hockey team, (which seem to look more like a group of misfits then any sort of team) his hatred of children becomes a love, which leads him back to his greater love of the game itself.
The cast of children is full of wide-eyed talent, lead by an adorable Charlie(Joshua Jackson) and hilarious Goldberg(Shaun Weiss) that still constantly make me laugh time and time again.
A fun film for anyone young at heart, hockey lover or not!
Summary of The Mighty Ducks
Screen favorite Emilio Estevez (STAKEOUT, YOUNG GUNS) stars in THE MIGHTY DUCKS, the hilarious comedy that made moviegoers stand up and cheer! Tough trial lawyer Gordon Bombay (Estevez) never loses. But when he's slapped with a community service assignment, he must coach a ragtag team of pee wee hockey players who can't skate, can't score, and can't win! Reluctantly, Bombay takes on the assignment and soon realizes there are more important things than winning. Armed with this new attitude, feathers fly as Bombay and the Ducks battle along to the toughest game of their lives!Disney had an unexpected hit with this predictable comedy about a smug lawyer (Emilio Estevez) busted for drunk driving and ordered to coach a sad-sack team of hockey-playing kids as community service. The kids triumph over their sundry problems, and Estevez's character grows up a little. End of story. A perfectly harmless movie for kids and adults who are giving their brains a night off. --Tom Keogh
