Movie Reviews of The McCartney YearsMovie Review: (Hopefully) one of the best McCartney releases ever! Summary: 5 Stars
I am really shocked there has not been more chatter within the McCartney/Beatles circles about this incredible release. While far from complete, I am still encouraged that Paul is finally getting around to doing this compilation of his music videos. Most serious fans already have these but do get them in (hopefully) crisp, clean condition....I think I am getting a little head rush. Then to also be including Mamunia on top of that is truly amazing! I remember reading there was a video made for Mamunia several years ago in Paul's Club Sandwich magazine. I'm so glad he decided to unearth it for this.
My biggest hope is that this DVD will be the catalyst that will get him releasing the rest of the video material we all know is languishing in his vaults. How great would it be to see beautiful copies of Rockshow (will all the songs), Unplugged (with all the songs), Up Close (with all the songs) not to mention One Hand Clapping or even those full shows we know he has of Wings 1973 and 1979 concerts.
I hope you all enjoy this as much as I will and Paul if you ever need a video researcher/librarian, I'm your man.
Movie Review: Great value for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I won't review the dvd disc by disc song by song like some but just want to add this is a great collection for the price. Think of this would you just want to have videos? Or just have one concert, here your getting a great sample of alot of different concerts and videos, to not be more than enthusiastic about this release is absurd. The listing says it's 3 hours but i'm sure it's more with all the bonus stuff even if it's not this is great vintage stuff, great videos, great concert footage, for 25$ or less which is less than so much in today's economy and i'm sure you'll reach for this collection more often than any musical dvd if your an even decent McCartney fan, I hope no one will be dissuaded by the bad reviews because this is really a great collection and at a more than great value, oh by the way the sound is more than fantastic, i just saw the unplugged segment and was just blown away by it, sound, performance, just incredible previously i watched a few videos and you have to understand that the times they were recorded in, of course the 70s videos will have a grainy appeal to them, not the sound however.
Movie Review: Excellant Summary: 5 Stars
The McCartney years is a record of Paul as a solo artist.
What is amazing is how many great songs he has written and made videos of.
This shows Paul McCartney as the true genius he is. He and Lennon are the greatest song writers of the last 100 years (at least)
Paul has been so innovative, its unbelieveable. When you watch him interviewed on this DVD collection, many times he shows his genius and how he records records.
His catalog is very extensive and I am sure we still have not heard the last of Paul.
This includes Wings and of course his solo efforts. There are gems on here like the video of Mull of Kintyre ( two different videos) and London Town among many others.
The last DVD is mostly concert footage from his World Tour in 1977 and parts of his Unplugged appearance. There is also recent concert footage.
This is for any McCartney or Wings Review: I'm With Mike---Include it all or don't bother Summary: 5 Stars
Mike said it all. Where the heck is the Concert for Kampuchea? It was out on LP all those years ago, so let's have it!
When you mentioned the 1973 TV special ("James Paul McCartney"), I just about flipped! You can actually see some clips from that on YouTube but you can't see it on this forthcoming release? Blasphemous!
Wouldn't it also be cool to see all of Paul's talkshow appearances? Or his SNL performances and cameos?
Just when you think they are going to have it all out there for you, they still manage to disappoint.
Don't forget that "Let It Be" still has to be remastered and Paul and Ringo are going to release a different Beatles tune from the Anthology sessions soon, too.
It absolutely will never end...
Movie Review: waiting for this Summary: 5 Stars
i have been a fan of paul and the beatles since the fall of 1963 when i saw a 1 minute clip on the jack paar show. since then, i've been like everyone else and could only buy their albums or see their movies. i have been lucky enough to see paul, george and ringo in concert. i had tix for the beatles at shea in '65, but was too young to fly there by myself (big time bummer). after 44 years of following the beatles, i got to meet paul this past january in NYC. i got to shake his hand, talk to him and get his autograph and it still gives me chills (chicken skin to george) til today. even though i have about everything by the beatles, together and solo, i'll be ordering this set. you never know, there might be a hidden gem in there.
