Movie Review: A terrific movie!
Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is truly fantastic--the acting is amazing, the storyline is moving, and the score and set are perfect. Since previous reviewers have described the storyline in much better detail than I ever could, I won't attempt to cover that. What *I* want to emphasize is how amazing the acting it--everyone in this movie is terrific, from the leads down to the minor roles.
Definitely pick this up! You won't regret it.

The DVD of The Mayor of Casterbridge was a pleasure to watch. I plan to watch it several times more. The DVD is true to Hardy's novel; all the characters were well acted and the scenery was authentic to the setting of the story. The story itself is quite unique and full of surprising twists and turns. The main character could be despicable at times, yet often noble and deserving of sympathy. I highly recommend this movie version of Thomas Hardy's novel. I got the movie after having read the original novel to see how closely it followed. While some scenes were shortened or not well elaborated for time constraints, it was sequenced nicely to make sense. The acting is perfect. I'm surprised this DVD only gets a 4-star rating. It is definitely a 5-star movie. Yes, it ends a little sad in one way, but so much other good stuff happens that it more than makes up for it. I too cannot top how the previous reviews described this movie. What caught my attention while I was channel flipping was the superb acting!! I loved the story. Can't wait to buy it as I never saw the beginning. Whish there were more out there like this one. It should be on the big screen!
