Movie Reviews of The Man in the Iron MaskMovie Review: Good, great. Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this on the Widescreen and it was very exciting. Leonardo Dicaprio (from Titanic and Romeo & Juliet) did a magnificent job of actign as 2 people but I can admit he did much better in Titanic and Romeo & Juliet. I think there was good acting from everyone, though. The stroy is about the long lost brother of King Louis III (Leonardo DiCaprio : Titanic, The Basketball Diaries), Phillipne (Dicaprio) who has currently had his heavy, iron mask taken off by prisnors. Phillipne is the good guy and he is aganist his twin brother. However, there is not much hope for Lois is rich and Phillipne is very very poor, how will he fight back? Extremely entertaining and very thrilling, great.
Movie Review: captivating Summary: 5 Stars
This was without a doubt one of the best movies I have ever seen. Leo was a bit out of place in 17th century France, but everyone else was perfect, especially Gabriel Byrne as D'Artagnan. I think Gabriel did a wonderful job of conveying his character's angst and conflict. I was really upset when he and Athos became enemies after Athos's son was killed. John Malkovich was also great as Athos, both grieving and vengeful. I thought the bond he formed with the good twin, Phillippe, was touching. Jeremy Irons seemed a little too detached as Aramis, but he still did a good job and was a perfect straight man for Gerard Depardieu, who was wonderfully crude and disgusting as Porthos.
Movie Review: True to Dumas Summary: 5 Stars
I have read the entire Musketeer series. This version closely tracks its written counterpart. It was well acted and involved the viewer in both the comedy and pathos Dumas was expert at entertaining his readers with. I was actually surprised by diCaprio's performance. I thought he showed great versatility in playing the dual roles. I loved Jeremy Irons in the role of d'Artagnan and I really liked Depardieu too in the role of Porthos. I have played my copy several times for guests in my home. It is a movie that engenders thought about good and evil and shows that, sometimes, it is important to do the right thing --- just because it is right to do.
Movie Review: Antidote for Hollywood degradation. Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the finest movie I know of. Randall Wallace's "The Man in The Iron Mask" jumps to the top of the list of great films. Coppola's films, of which I am a mighty admirer, must be rated below this one grand event. Why? Because this film is a clear display of the heroic character. People everywhere long to see the grand and heroic human being. This film delivers it in spades. These actors present the Musketeers integrity, dedication and courage in a way Dumas would be proud to see. A great film such as Casablanca can be seen over and over with increased enjoyment and understanding. BUT THIS FILM GROWS STRONGER WITH EACH VIEWING.
Movie Review: Magnificent! Summary: 5 Stars
Marvelously done movie. Leonardo Di Caprio was perfect for this part. I don't know what he's like personally, I don't care, but acting he does very well. This movie has a great story. Keeps a good pace. Great casting, so many talented actors and actresses in the same show. An innocent man locked in an iron mask not knowing why. And the valliant musketeers help him attempt to reclaim his identity. I own this video and have yet to watch it on dvd and read the book. Beautiful scenery. Romance, good action, comedy and very entertaining. D'Artagnan's my favorite character. Not one bad thing I could say about this one. Two thumbs...way up!
