Movie Reviews of The Making of a Marine

Movie Review: Kid Friendly?
Summary: 4 Stars

My girlfriends brother was recently shipped off to boot camp in California. Her 6 year old son has been missing him and is always asking questions about what his Uncle is doing, having never been in boot camp before, I am unable to explain to him exactly what it entails. I am trying to find a documentary on Marine Boot Camp that is on the 'tame' side. I want the little guy to see what his uncle is doing, but on the other hand, I do not want to scare the crap out of him. Is this DVD what I am looking for, or should I continue my search? (Please excuse my rating, I have not watched this yet.)

Movie Review: Excellent but ...
Summary: 4 Stars

This is an excellent video on Marine Corps Recruit Training. Anyone considering joining the USMC, their families or just anyone interested would be well served by this film.

The Discovery Channel 3-hour film on recruit training is just better. Nothing wrong with this and it isnt as long but given the choice I would choose the Discovery Channel video.

Movie Review: U.S. Marine Corps boot camp
Summary: 3 Stars

The video does a good job of documenting Marine Corps boot camp but does not do as good a job as "The Crucible". Recommended for those interested in Marine Corps recruit training. The video only covers enlisted boot camp; those interested in Officer Candidate School will have to seek that insight elsewhere.

Movie Review: RIPOFF!
Summary: 1 Stars

Being that im joining the Corps in a month, I figured that I would absorb as much information via dvd and books as I could. Let me tell you this movie STINKS. About 5 minutes into the film I realized this is just bits and pieces of the History Channel's special on Parris Island (I forgot the name of the series but its a 3 hour 3 part deal). If you want to save yourself some money just tune to Military or History Channel and see all 3 hours (Ive watched the complete series at least 3 times in the last month on the Military Channel).
