Movie Reviews of The Making of a MarineMovie Review: Makes Me Proud! Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend this DVD to anyone thinking of joining the Marine Corps and especially for parents who have a son or daughter thinking of joining the Corps. I viewed this program recently and I feel very proud of the young men and women who take up this challenge. I served briefly in the mid-70s and I was curious as to how things have changed. It's still tough. My nephew leaves for boot camp in March. I feel better knowing that my Corps is still the Corps I knew. Also, an earlier reviewer mentioned that the Crucible was not included on this DVD. He must not have seen this version, because it is very definitely there and is extremely well done. Most impressive. Semper Fi.
Movie Review: One of the best programs I've seen about the Marine Corps Summary: 5 Stars
Without a doubt, this is one of the best programs I've ever seen about Marine Corps boot camp. I bought this DVD to see the bonus feature about boot camp at San Diego in the 1950s. Turns out that I was fascinated by both. To see how it was and how it is, I must tell you I feel confident that our new generation of Marines will do a great job. You sense the pride in these young men and women as they become Marines.I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in joining the Marine Corps and especially for the parents of future Marines. Our country is in great hands. God bless America and our Corps. Semper Fi.
Movie Review: Marines.........the best,always haved,always will Summary: 5 Stars
I thought this was,and is a wonderful video,I inlisted in the marines in 1971 and was in MCRD San Diego for 13weeks served two tours of duty in nam. Went in as a brat, wouldn't listen to anyone,or anybody, snot nose punk, ganster wanna be. And after getting my a__ chewed out almost daily,i came out a man with pride,a sense of being, respect and honor for myself, learning to work with others, loving my country much more. Had i not made that move,I'd ether be on drugs,in prison,or dead.my sons will be joining soon and I know that wherever they may be,they will learn and understand what it really means to be an marine.
Movie Review: The Making Of A Marine Summary: 5 Stars
This book was very helpful in helping a young man deside if he really wanted to be a Marine are not. Also, it is a good book to read.
Movie Review: A Good Presentation of the new Corps, but the Ole' Corps was also extremely effective... Summary: 4 Stars
I served in the Corps from '58 to '62, and I have witnessed a lot of changes in the interim. I served in the Corps during the cold war, and did not participate in combat, although I (like all Marines) was certainly trainned to wade into the enemy and cause major damage. That's the Marine Corps way, of course. The new Corps, which is still America's 911 force, is an up-to-date malitia which can respond immediately to any problems around the globe. I really respect our current Marines, but at the same time, I would like to emphasize the basic trainning and effectiveness of the "Ole Corps". You see the old Corps Marines kicked the Japanese square in the rump in WWII. Thank GOD for our Marines, as this country would be in trouble without a shock force that can take the battle to the enemy in short time. So, in analysis of the "Making of a Marine", I give this documentary a 4 (out of 5) as I think it is a bit slanted towards the new (and great) Corps. I am very proud in that the Marine Corps Boot Camp is still a very tough objective for anyone thinking they can become one of "the few, the proud, the Marines" in a short time. It still requires total devotion (mentally, morally and physically) to the standards of the United States Marine Corps. In summation, I think this presentation of basic trainning (the Making of a Marine)in the Marine Corps is very accurate. I only wish I could re-enlist. GUNG-HO !!!!
