Movie Reviews of The MajesticMovie Review: The message is very timely! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie always makes me weep when Carrey gives his speech to the McCarthy-era committee. It speaks so much to what we're going through now with the Patriot Act, etc. At a time when I was feeling very upset with my government, it reminded me of just how patriotic I am and how much I love democracy and don't want to see it squandered. I think Carrey is wonderful in this film - his acting during the speech is filled with the proper subtleties of a man who is finding himself in the very moment he speaks his true mind for the first time. I love this film a lot! I would rather see a movie with flaws (although I don't think it has many) that has a message that moves me rather than a slick film with nothing human in it.
Movie Review: Any one can be a critic. Summary: 5 Stars
Usually people that call themselves a critic are usually want-to-be actors. Need i say more about this.I'm not a big Jim Carrey fan, but it seems like an aging bottle of really fine, rare wine he continues to get better acting roles and in turn his acting continues to excell. I've read alot about the guy and have been extremely impressed with him as a person and actor.Yes, this movie might be a toss-back to the 50's but it's good, pure, clean fun. What is wrong with that. Has our acting ability being judged on sex or talent? In this film it's being judged on talent and Jim Carrey has it.This is a delightful movie you can take you mother to see. It's funny, witty, emotional and that adds up to "Entertainment."
Movie Review: A forgotten favorite - a well told story Summary: 5 Stars
I have no idea why I waited so long to add The Majestic to our home movie library. I've loved it since the first time I saw it. Everything about the movie is quietly powerful. The story, cast, and set locations are genuinely heartwarming. The patriotic message will stir the heart of everyone who cherishes what the Constitution truly represents. The insanity of the Joseph McCarthy Era is displayed beautifully. If you enjoy a well told story, get The Majestic.
There is a good reason the movie is not available in Blu-ray. The DVD transfer for the 1.85:1 aspect ratio on HD looks almost Blu-ray perfect so why offer an upgrade? A great movie and a sharp transfer, what more could one ask?
Movie Review: UNDERRATED GEM! WELL WORTH WATCHING! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this picture a few years back and wanted to see it again. If you never bothered to check it out, please do so. This is not your usual 'Carrey' vehicle but, a well told story about hope, freedom and much more. After a car crash causes a young screenwriter to lose his memory the citizens of a small hometown mistake him for being a local war hero who died in the war a decade ago. The great cast helps make this movie a must see, It's not quite a 5 star film, but I think this film would have been much more engrossing, if the audience wasn't aware if the man was the war hero or not right from the beginning. Carrey does a fine job in a wonderful dramatic role. The DVD transfer is very good.
Movie Review: Jim Carey at his best Summary: 5 Stars
We've always loved the Majestic, but it's especially poignant watching it now, as America is at war. The small town that rescues Jim Carey's character is what we all want; the sincere sharing of joys and sorrows with others that have been where we've been.
I don't know why The Majestic ended up being a relative sleeper. (For that matter, I don't know why Saving Grace, Pure Luck, and other brilliant movies with brilliant acting ended up that way, either.) Except for in the Majestic, the lead was played by a man who everyone expects to see playing someone wacky or stupid, no exceptions. It's a shame. Carey was brilliant in this thought-provoking, heart-warming film.
