Movie Reviews of The MajesticMovie Review: A clean and decent movie for a change Summary: 5 Stars
Most professional reviewers panned this movie - which is a sure sign that it's decent and clean and your grandmother and kids can watch it. If you like action, blood, cleavage, nudity and sexual situations and inuendos and that epitome of intelligent artistic expression in screen dialogue, the F- word, - then this movie is definitely NOT for you. It is a sweet story of boy and girl next door love and patriotism. I've heard it described as overly cliche, if that's the case then bring on more! I don't care for Jim Carrey's wild/crazy personna and avoid those films, but I love him in The Majestic and The Truman Show. Like Robin Williams, he shows that his talents run the whole spectrum and I can't wait to see more of his serious side. However he is a comic genious and it would be a shame if he totally abandoned something he is so good at.
Movie Review: The Majestic Summary: 5 Stars
Peter Appleton is a script writer during the 1950's who is suspected to be a Communist among many Hollywood film people (which is not true). Along the way, he gets into a freak car accident and suffers amnesia, then ends up in a small California town. There he lives in a run down movie theatre where he learns the magic of experiencing a movie in it. Soon, the Communist hunters find him and call him to testify before a Senate hearing committee. This is a nice movie. A movie that will make you laugh. The story (a man with amnesia is seen as a long lost son in a small town) is not that special, but it has some nice things to avoid the bigger cliches. This movie is very well made, and in the end you will have a nice feeling about it. I recommend it to anyone. It is to be enjoyed.
Movie Review: Hollywood take notice Jim Carrey can really act!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The previews were so compelling I knew I just had to see this movie. I was skeptical at first because Jim Carrey is mostly noted for his comedic performances. Boy, did I get a surprise in this one. This movie draws you into it and doesn't let go until the last reel. You feel good when you leave and Lawson makes you wish it were a town you could visit some weekend. I fell in love with the film the way people fell in love with Capra films. Familiar faces and new ones all made this film a joy to see. I am sorry the critics missed on this one. This film should be noted for its compassion and its love story. I'm glad I went to see it and will definitely get it when it comes out on video. Wish I could've seen it in a theater like The Majestic in the movie.
Movie Review: Has Classic Potential, Carry does well in non-comedic role! Summary: 5 Stars
I never even heard of this movie until I stumbled on it here on Amazon. I read all the reviews and saw that the used price was reasonable and I made the purchase. I am glad I did. I loved this movie. It is a feel good, cry twice (but don't tell anybody) kind of movie (one from sadness, the other happy). I think Jim Carrey did a super job acting (with no corny jokes) in this serious role. If you are looking for comedy, this is probably not the Jim Carrey DVD to purchase, but if you are looking for some good afternoon entertainment, this is it. The movie starts off a little slow, and I thought it was a bit long, but the story was great. I believe it could of been a masterpiece had it been shorter and edited under 2 hrs. Overall, it is worth seeing.
Movie Review: The guy with the rubber face. Summary: 5 Stars
Unless my memory has failed me this is the first serious role for the man with the rubber face, and he has done a wonderful job. I have a new regard for Jim Carry and his acting talent as a result of this picture. Carrey gets amnesia, sets up a new life in a small coastal town somewhere north of L.A. He's a dead-ringer for the towns dead war hero. This is the boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl plot. But Carrey plays it for all that it's worth, as they say. This is a heart-warming story, with some good dialogue, and fine acting by Jim Carrey. I recall only one scene where Carrey imitates his short term sidekick, Jocko, the monkey. Other than that, no rubber faces. Two thumbs up to Jim Carrey for some very good serious role acting.
