Movie Reviews of The MajesticMovie Review: The Unsung Hero of Jim Carrey Movies Summary: 5 Stars
The fantastic thing about this movie is that you take Jim Carrey and once he stops trying to be just funny and starts trying to act you find out that he's amazing at it. No one can deny that Jim Carrey has everything it takes to be a fantastic actor. This movie is classic, it takes place in the era of the Red Scare. Jim Carrey is a screenwriter by the name of Peter Appleton who gets blacklisted for some communist group that he attended in college to impress a girl. He goes out that evening and gets drunk and takes a drive. His car goes off a bridge and he hits his head. He wakes up on a beach the next day not remembering a thing. He is taken in to a small town and is mistaken for a WWII hero who was thought to be dead. With the FBI looking for him and the town welcoming their hero home this movie deals with a small town's healing from WWII and the many sons that they lost. It's a fantastic movie recommended for anyone, especially those that consider themselves movie buffs. This is the unknown masterpiece of Jim Carrey's collection.
Movie Review: Film historians of the late twenty-first century will wonder how so many people could have overlooked this movie. Summary: 5 Stars
I'm sure this movie would have been more well-received if it had been released six months earlier than it was. But three months after the destruction of the World Trade Center, America was in no mood to consider the justness of war, or to question the infallibility of its Government. But the course of events in the years following its release have shown The Majestic to be far more timely than anyone could have guessed. Another misfortune that precluded critical acclaim for this movie is that few people are willing to see beyond Jim Carrey's astonishing talent for crude physical comedy, at which he is an unparalleled genius. But he is also one of the best dramatic actors film makers have ever had the good luck to discover, and his performance by itself would make this one of the best movies hollywood has ever created, and yet there's more. Each person in this movie is giving what is probably the best performance of their own career, and the movie itself is without doubt one of the best written and best filmed movies ever made.
Movie Review: I wish I'd seen this one in the theater Summary: 5 Stars
I gave this one a pass when it was in the theater, and now I'm regretting it. Not because it is so visually stunning that it has to be seen on the big screen, but because it deserved my attention (and the attention of others). This is a very powerful and entertaining story in an unassuming wrapper. But, the lack of Hollywood explosions and gratuitous sex have apparently made it virtually invisible to the movie-going public (myself included, I'm sorry to say). This movie is about love, friendship, community, and personal integrity. It's about doing the right thing, even when the potential consequences do not bear thinking about, and the potential rewards seem non-existent. It's about quiet little heroes who do not win wars or pull children out of burning buildings. It's about the kind of people that we like to pretend we are. It forced me to take a good look at the man I see in the mirror every day. And, for that alone, it would be worth the price of admission.
Movie Review: A wonderful surprise! Summary: 5 Stars
Let me start by saying I'm not a fan of the madcap Jim Carrey. I watched this movie only because the free oscar screener came my way, and sat for the first few minutes with my finger on the "Stop" button, ready to press it the second he pulled a face.I was in for a massive surprise! I absolutely loved it! It's gentle love story and the wonderful small-town characters (who couldn't adore Martin Landau?) were a movie in themselves, but the breath-taking Hollywood communist witch-hunt added an amazing dimension to an already enthralling tale. It's a movie which makes you think - so recently, this staggering event took place. For once, it's the small guy whose side you are on as he battles through this shady and forgotten piece of recent US history. Throw in a passable non-face-pulling performance from Jim Carrey and the gentle characters he ends up with, and there's a movie I recommend to anyone, without hesitation!
Movie Review: Words can't do it justice Summary: 5 Stars
Words can't do it justice. Negative remarks made by critics are just that (negative). It may sound like a cliché, but ... SEE THIS FILM!!I'm here because I loved it so much I was hoping I could ... purchase it on DvD... This is one of the ultimates for those with nostalgia for simpler times. A real tear jerker too! It deals with lost hopes and dreams of the families of so many American soldiers whose lives were lost in such a real way! Bravo Jim Carrey! This is one of his best performances yet and he certainly has more than his share. I'm so impressed with his ability (in this film) to play such a serious, loving and (at times even calm) role! Awesome! What an incredible actor in an incredible film! Jim is right up there with some of the masters like Robin Williams. In a word, "Magic!" Enough already.. just see it! :)
