Movie Reviews of The Majestic

Movie Review: Hem Jesti!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have alot of respect for Jim Carrey as an actor. The thing is that people never give him the chance to do a drama film.He has been in many comendy films in which he rolls his eyes and goes crazy such as The Grinch,Liar Liar, and The Cable Guy.Now he does The Majestic a film in which he is never running around and jumping and throwing stuff like he always does.Instead he is calm and talks like a normal person and does nice things. And then nobody goes to see the movie.

At a whopping 152 minutes The Majestic is an epic tale about a Hollywood screenwriter named Peter Appleton in the 1950's who is acused of being a Communist because he attended meeting with a girl.He did not know the meetings were of Communist activity. After a tragic accendent in the water he passes out and ends up on a beach where his whole life is going to change.

On this town next to the beach called Lawson California. There he meets Harry Trimble who thinks that Peter is really his long lost son Luke who was lost in the war.Peter doesn't remember anything prior to waking up on the beach and then becomes Luke.

As Luke he meets Adale who was his girlfriend 9 1/2 years ago. Then he was missing in the line of duty. But now the FBI smells something fishy because why would an American run away after being accused of being a Communist?

The Majestic is a wonderful film that will always be one of my favorites.

ENJOY!

Movie Review: Phenomenal...Reminds me of Jimmy Stewart
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok, I never thought I'd say this, as Jimmy Stewart is my favorite actor from my favorite movie (It's a Wonderful Life), but I truly believe Jim Carrey is becoming a modern-day Jimmy Stewart, that is, if he keeps doing movies like this one and The Truman Show. I thought this movie looked interesting when I first picked it up, but I was absolutely blown away by it. It truly deserves an Academy Award, together with his acting and Martin Landau's. It's about a Hollywood film writer (Carrey) who, after falsely being accused of being a "communist" during the famous "Hollywood Blacklist" scandal time, he gets into an accident where he bumps his head. He awakens on a beach with amnesia. A good samaritan takes him into town to help him and he becomes mistakenly identified as one of the town's long-lost, believed dead, war heroes. Again, it was moving, riveting, interesting and just all-around great. There is no violence or obscenities. Makes you wish that times were still like that, where being a good person still mattered. I hope they keep making movies like this and that Jim Carrey keeps making movies like this. I never liked him when he did those silly "Pet Detective" movies, but as a dramatic actor, (with some comedy), he is superb.

Movie Review: Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! RUN TO SEE THIS ONE!!
Summary: 5 Stars

An unabashedly old-fashioned movie-movie. Every frame is lovingly wrought -- Frank Darabont's a master filmmaker (The Shawshank Redemption, for heaven's sake!), and he's given us yet another one for the ages.

The script is a joy, punctuated throughout with wit, resonance and deep underlying meaning. Carrey's brilliantly understated performance is the centerpiece, Martin Landau shines in a poignant turn, and Laurie Holden is nothing short of miraculous in (I believe) her big-screen debut. The depth of the supporting cast is utterly astounding; standouts are James Whitmore, David Ogden Stiers, and Jeffrey DeMunn, and more.

All of my friends and I are completely at a loss to explain the discrepancy between the way we all COMPLETELY loved the movie and the way it was reviewed by many critics. In our group of seven frequent moviegoers, ALL of us placed The Majestic in our Top Ten films of 2001 (all of us in the top 5, as a matter of fact) and four of us placed it as our FAVOURITE FILM of 2001.

Take that, critics! You were dead wrong on this one, and the passage of time will affirm that. I predict that this will be among the most popular video and DVD rentals when it comes out -- I plan to pre-order my copy from Amazon.com today!

Movie Review: The Majestic: Everyone's Voice
Summary: 5 Stars

Setting in LA and a local town of CA in 1950s McCarthy ear, "The Majestic" tells us a Hollywood screenwriter's life-change story, Peter Appleton was blacklisted for the suspicion of being a Communist by HUAC, though getting involved in a traffic accident and losing the memory, fortunately he was alive and picked up by a old man from a local town called Lawson, in that town he was mistakenly identified as a hero-a missing soldier and was warmly welcomed simply because he was perfectly alike the missing soldier. The love of his "father" and the kindness of town people totally changed his attitude of life. The Majestic, a movie theater in the town, was the turning point where he made the choice to live a down-to-earth life rather than to fade in Hollywood.
It is worthy of keeping a DVD of this movie, because it shows its heart-warming scenes to the audiences. See, when a man tries to change his mood by watching a movie through TV, no one wants to be educated or lectured but everyone like to be warmed and moved simply and honestly like going to see a classic movie in "The Majestic". It is everyone's voice.

Movie Review: This movie is worthy of an audience!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie, as I recall, was laregely ignored when it first came out. It deserves a bigger audience on DVD or VHS. For some it might be overly long and preachy but if you look beyond that you will find a sweet, sentimental movie that has a lot of heart. I thought this movie would expand Jim Carrey's scope into more mature roles which he is capable of and is deserving. I could easily see him one day winning the respect of the Academy voters and finally getting an Oscar for a movie and not a lifetime of them. Why is it that comedians like Robin and Jim Carrey do so well in dramatic straight roles? Supporting actors like Martin Landau and David Ogden Stiers also give unforgettable performances and Laurie Holden is not only a gorgeous actress but she emotes depth and emotion with subtleness. The movie is also very beautiful to look at with a lovely California town and scenery which looks like it was painted by Thomas Kinkade. This is also a great movie to watch with your grandparents, your mom and dad without worrying about swearing or sex. Yes, it's schmaltzy and sentimental but sometimes we need movies like this!
