Movie Reviews of The Lost BoysMovie Review: "The Outsiders" of the 1980's Summary: 5 StarsWhen I think of the 80's, I think of the Lost Boys. And whenever I think of the Lost Boys, I think of the summer of 1987. The Lost Boys is one of those "My Generation" films for those of us who grew up in the 80's. I beleive that the Lost Boys is a movie that could of only taken place in the 1980's. I dont think a sequel would work to well in 2008. This is my favorite movie of all time. Every time I watch it; it takes me back 21 years ago when the 80's "hair" rock was the fashion. Joel Schumacher (the director) grew up in the 1950's, and this is his tribute to "The Outsiders" genre. The soundtrack is just as good; I beleive at least half of the success of The Lost Boys movie is due to the music soundtrack. I own both. It came out in July 1987- the perfect atmosphere for those getting out of high school. This is a movie that can be watched in the summer time - or at Halloween time. There is not one dull moment in this film. Party all night-sleep all day-never grow old and never die! Its fun to be a vampire!
Own it today; you will not be disapointed!
Get the special edition DVD if you can. The bonus disc really gives you alot of insight into the making of the movie with interviews by both Coreys, Keifer Sutherland, the make up artist, the camera man and the director and more.
Movie Review: Priceless, especially if you remember the 80s. Summary: 5 StarsWhen their mom gets divorced, brothers Sam (Corey Haim) and Michael (Jason Patric looking impossibly young and pretty) move with her from Phoenix AZ to their grandpa's semi-rural property outside the funky California beach town of Santa Clara. Sam is about 14 and already suffering withdrawal-from-television. He's not pleased when Mom drives them past a billboard welcoming people to town and he happens to see spray-painted on its backside: "Murder Capital of the World." Plus, there seems to be a million flyers up all over town for missing people.
Grandpa is a twinkly, eccentric taxidermist. Mom is sweet-natured but understandably preoccupied with how she's going to get a job. Sam and Michael who is about 18 are free to roam town. What a town! A never-ending amusement park, a boardwalk along the beach stuffed with colorful characters, bonfires on the beach. Free concerts! People of every ethnicity and size and shape! All this is believable and great to look at: it makes you wonder why Sam misses Phoenix. Michael, in particular, is enchanted to spot a gorgeous hippie girl named Star (Jamie Gertz) at an outdoor concert.
But Star (and a mysterious little boy whom she carries around like a pet) are in the orbit of a group of flashy teenage trouble-makers on motorbikes led by David (Kiefer Sutherland also looking impossibly young and pretty). These lost boys, led by David, latch on to Michael in a competitive-threatening-possessive way. Soon he's getting reeled into their dangerous company.
Sam starts to wonder if something more metaphysical is going on. Could these lost boys be ... vampires? Is his brother in danger? He's a comic-book fanatic and soon he runs across the Frog brothers, also about 14, who help their folks run a comic-book store. The Frog brothers are paramilitary in a hilariously over-the-top way, and self-proclaimed vampire experts. Soon they are helping Sam to prepare for the epic fight of his life.
This is a movie to be watched over and over again: for its exciting sequences, fast-moving plot, and especially its laugh-out-loud funny moments. It's a cult classic for good reason.

Movie Review: Lost Boys a modern day vampire story Summary: 5 StarsLost boys was another well made modern day vampire story that I was happy to be able to purchase on dvd because, yep, you guessed it, my vhs copy of this wore out also. Dianne Wiest is good as the mom and the grandfather that they come to stay with is eccentric but often hillarious. Jason Patrick has a somewhat eerie presence about him at times and Kiefer Sutherland is perfect as the leader of the vampire gang. What's a good horror flick without a pretty girl for two young vampires to squabble over, enter (Star)Jamie Gertz. It is always a pleasure to see Corey Haim and Corey Feldman together in any movie and they are great together in this one. Special effects are very good, humour is abundant and gore is widespread. The sountrack to this movie is awesome. So, set back, turn out the lights, grab a chineese takeout and oh yeah, are you sure that's a container of rice that you are eating? Nuff Said.
Movie Review: Being a vampire is cool Summary: 4 StarsThe Lost Boys practically defines 80s teens movies as a horror movie with a gtreat teen cast. Two Brothers, Sam (Haim) and Mike (Patric) move with their newly divorced mom (Wiest) from Phoenix to Santa Carla, a place where, if the corpses were to all stand up at once, there'd be one hell of a population problem, as their goofy backwoods grandfather (Bernard Hughes) explains.
Mike is the first to find out why when his interest in a girl suddenly lures him into a world of trouble with a clan of teen vampires lead by a guy named David (Sutherland). And as Sam's brother turns into a "goddamned bloodsucking vampire," Sam has to call on the strange Frog brothers (Feldman and Newlander) for help, despite his disbelief of their previous warnings that Santa Carla has a major vampire problem, and to their suspicion, possibly werewolves and ghouls as well. They have to find out who the head vampire is before Mike, Star (Jami Garr), and Laddie (Corbitt) become full vampires. This is one fantastic movie as teenagers try to save the day from the cave-dwelling bloodsuckers. Even their enemies--David (Sutherland), Marco (Winter), Paul (Wirth), and Dwayne (McCarter) are cool, even though they are vampires out to kill Sam and Mike and everyone else.
The cast was great in this movie, even Bernard Hughes as Sam and Mike's grandfather because he is just so completely goofy. Edward Herrman and Diane Wiest are likewise funny as their dates are usually spoiled by the intervention by Sam and his vampire hunting endeavors. But, the reason why this is probably the great 80s movie that it is aside from the story, is the hot teen cast, particularly the gorgeous Jason Patric and even Kiefer Sutherland in a part very contrasting to the wierd roles he seemed to be accustomed to in those days. Jami Garr, too, was fantastic as Star, breaking out of previous typecasting as a geek like Muffy Tepperman on "Square Pegs" or for her brief role in Mischief.
Unfortunately, for those who are Corey Haim and Feldman days, this film (and possibly License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream) mark the last good movies that either will appear in as they eventually went on a junkie fest in the later 80s. This is one the greatest films that you'll see either Corey in. As for other qualities of the movie, you do get a real feel for 80s culture, particularly in the opening sequence along Santa Carla's pier. The soundtrack is pretty good, too, with a collection of songs by INXS, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Tim Capello (who used performed with Tina Turner in the Mad Max music videos "We Don't Need Another Hero" and "One of the Living"). Got to love it.
