Movie Reviews of The Lord of the Rings

Movie Review: The Lord of the Rings
Summary: 5 Stars

'The Lord of the Rings' animated movie by director Ralph Bakshi is absolutely wonderful! The animation (especially the rotoscoping), voice acting, and sound effects in this movie are all very well done. The plot goes fairly well with author J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' book trilogy and the film itself has a lot of action, adventure, and fantasy in it. Sadly, this animated movie was never completed. But that doesn't make it a bad film. I highly recommend you buy 'The Lord of the Rings' animated movie by director Ralph Bakshi!

Movie Review: Stupendous
Summary: 5 Stars

By far the best of all the current presentations to date. I especialy enjoyed the performance of Tom Bombadil (can not remember the actors name ). Also the stunning atmosperic portrayal of the Barrow Downs really sent a sliver of ice up my spine. The soundtrack is stunning I would put it up with classics such as Starwars and Gladiator but more then likey the dirty dozen is where the sound came from.

It will be an up hill battle for the current movie to push this gem out of its rightful place as the greatest film in history.

Movie Review: At long last....
Summary: 5 Stars

This undeservedly-derided classic gets the DVD release it merits. Quite simply, this film turned me on to Tolkien and the wide worlds of fantasy. The impressive and still-revolutionary visual style defined for me (and later, MERP) what Middle Earth was. Though like everyone else, I am disappointed the second half was never released, what is there is lovely. A concise, understandable telling of this story, from a time when instead of CGI you needed the pen of the animator to bring it to life.

Movie Review: Darkly Effected, but somewhat Flawed
Summary: 5 Stars

The dark landscapes and nightmarish hordes of orc soliders charging across the rugged wastes make this film very enjoyable on an aesthetic level. However, the film follows the book poorly and omits very many details -too many in fact to keep the film coherent. Lots of zesty style and odd rotoscope animation guarantee that this will be a cult classic, much like Bakshi's other film Wizards. Very hard to find but enjoyable film with a very good musical score.

Movie Review: fantastic animation and an artistic vision
Summary: 5 Stars

You really have to be a fan of Bakshi to truly appreciate this. His style of animation is not for everyone. This was the first truly serious adaptation of the books and will always have a nostalgic place in my heart. It captures a visual quality which matched the pace and movement of the story. The characters in this film set the standard for many live action fantasy films after it. Its well worth watching and owning.
