Movie Review: A brilliant true-to-history reconstruction of D-Day

While "Saving Private Ryan" has caused a younger generation to realise the horrors faced by those who fought in the Second World War, it was a work of fiction and did very little to place the Normandy landings in their true historic context. "The Longest Day" provides the historical background necessary to understand fully why June 6th, 1944 was such a significant date in the history of the 20th Century. This film shows the role played by all of the nations involved in the Normandy landings. Backed up by a stellar cast, it is definitely worth watching.
