Movie Reviews of The Long Walk HomeMovie Review: An Amazing Journey Summary: 5 StarsI thought The Long Walk Home was a captivating movie that captured the struggle that people faced during the civil rights movement. It is aimed at giving the viewer an in-depth look into the lives of everyday people who were in some way affected by the bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama. Oprah Winfrey plays Odessa, an African-American mother who works as a maid in a community divided by racist beliefs. With depth and poise, the actors bring alive the stories of families who were at the heart of segregation--some wanting to end it, and others fearing what would happen if it did end. Seen through the eyes of a young girl who grows up realizing that black or white, we're all human beings, the movie is a portrayal of a part of our American history that we must all be made aware of. I strongly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a good movie--and a good lesson!!
Movie Review: The Long Walk Home Summary: 5 StarsThis movie paints a very vivid picture of the 1955 bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama. Odessa Cotter, a maid, is in the middle of the beggining of the civil rights struggle. One can see the differences between a white and black family during the 50's. Odessa struggles to support her family and the boycott. One feels the tension between the two groups, and the violence that sometimes resulted. I saw this movie in Morality class, and I'm glad I had the chance to see it. Because of this movie I am more aware of the civil rights struggle and all of the hardships that came with it. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to enrich their knowledge and enjoy a great movie.
Movie Review: COURAGEOUS WOMEN Summary: 5 StarsWhen we think about the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott of the Civil rights movement our minds immediately think of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Park. Very seldom do we think about the ordinary citizens who were responsible for taking risks in overthrowing segregation. The Long Walk Home focuses on two women, one Black, the other white, in their struggle to come to turns with a movement about to turn their lives upside down. Meet Miriam, the typical white southern woman who lives to keep together her home. Of course her maid, Odessa, is the one who keeps the home. Miriam is not a bad woman. Her maid is just like family but talk of the boycott would be an inconvience to the family. After all, who will clean the shouse. Odessa, is the maid. She is a strong woman and loves her family. She is also tired of the mess going on. Whoopi Goldberg and Sissey Spacek give sterling performances of women who are forced to change the way life has always been. Both must take risks and with those risks comes a price. Both of these women have outdone themselves in displaying the emotions, anger and disappointments in their lives. Every moment you feel their pain and sympathize with their dilemma. This movie is a testament of the strong southern Black and white women who took a stand for justice at the expense of defying their community. Share with them their story. You will be deeply moved and grateful for their sacrifice.
