Movie Reviews of The Long Walk HomeMovie Review: A Long Walk Home is wonderful Summary: 5 StarsI thought that the Long Walk Home was a wonderful movie. I loved how they showed the things that were going on during that time in history. I also liked how they didn't base it entirely on the people of history that you knew but the people that you rarely heard about. It also showed how a young lady was not afraid of standing up for what she believed in and what she wanted to do. It showed how two totally different people were able to come together as one. It helped you realize that no one is truely different but all the same and when they put their differences aside anything can be done and any difference can be made. This is a wonderful film and it is a definite five.
Movie Review: The Long Walk Home Summary: 5 StarsI saw the movie The Long Walk Home in my Morality Class at school. I loved the movie. The film helped me see what it was like for the people who tried to live ordinary lives during the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It helped show how it effected their lives and how an ordinary person could help people realize that what they have been following is wrong and how they really believe the otherside. The movie also helped show how Blacks were treated back then and how racist people were during that time. The movie The long walk home showed how bad Black people lived compared to how the white people lived. In the film i think that the filmmakers did a good job when they showed what it was like during the time of the montgomery bus boycott. The movie The long walk home helped people realize how badly Black people and people who were not racist were treated and how they were an outcast to society.
Movie Review: A moving story about growth, pride, and courage! Summary: 5 StarsI loved Sissy Spacek's acting in Coal Miner's Daughter and I loved Whoopi Goldberg's performance in The Color Purple. Several years ago, I was browsing through titles in video rental store, and stumbled upon The Long Walk Home, and noticed that both Sissy and Whoopi were featured. Intrigued with the combination, I rented the video, and was MOVED by the story, and impressed with the work by Sissy and Whoopi. The story was very evenly presented...the characters' divergent points of view were fairly and accurately represented. That first rental resulted in a purchase, which I've watched periodically with great pleasure.
Movie Review: UNEXPECTEDLY GREAT!!! Summary: 5 StarsWhen I first rented the movie, I thought that Whoopi Goldberg would be another funny Corrina. I was pleasantly suprised at the serious tone of the movie. This remarkable film shows the skyrocketing racial tension in 1955 Montgomery. However both blacks and whites are treated like human beings in the film and I believe it is accurate. Spacek is at her best and Whoopi is one great drama actress. Both Odessa and Miriam are hardworking women, they love their children very much, and are optimistc in increasingly racist and violent surroundings. A must see for anyone interested in Civil Rights and American History
Movie Review: Fine film marred by sappy ending Summary: 3 StarsThe Montgomery bus boycott certainly is promising material for a powerful film and, for a while, I thought that this film would deliver on that score. The cast is excellent. All of the reviewers have mentioned Sissy Spacek and Whoopi Goldberg, but it should be pointed out that Dwight Schultz also turns in an excellent performance as Spacek's husband. He exemplifies one of the major strengths of this film. Too often white racists are portrayed as rabid, villainous characters with whom it is difficult to identify. This is comforting to white viewers because it allows them to put psychological distance between themselves and those other "bad white people" who are nothing like them. The southern whites in this film are "just plain folks" not so different from the people I meet every day. The problem with this film is the major way in which it cops out at the end. The film begins quietly and builds to a climax that promises to be quite intense and potentially devastating. Well, I won't give away what actually happens, but I will say that it is a healthy dose of love-is-stronger-than-hate sacchrine that is completely at odds with the rest of the film. What a miscalculation.
