Movie Reviews of The Long Walk HomeMovie Review: Christine's Review - The Long Walk Home Summary: 4 Stars'The Long Walk Home' was an excellent film. It was very informative and educational, as well as pleasurable. In Montgomery in 1955, life was difficult for those who lived there. I think this film was a great portrayal of how hard everyone's life was and the changes they had to make. Odessa Cotter and Miriam Thompson, two central characters, teach us an important lesson for other to live by. Miriam doesn't allow her husband, Norman, to tell her what is right and wrong. Miriam doesn't let him control her actions. She realizes that helping with the carpool and supporting the boycott is the right thing to do. Odessa is very strong while all this is going on. She has hope of a new order. At first, I was skeptical on all the violence and racist language, but later realized that having it all gave a more practical view and a better understanding on how harsh life was and what everyone had to deal with. I recommend and encourage everyone to see this movie, if not already seen. Even if you're not into this kind of historical background, it's still very good and enjoyable to watch!!
Movie Review: Highly Informative Summary: 3 StarsI viewed this movie in my religion class. I found it to be very interesting and infomative. It provided an accurate and tasteful view of what life must have been like in the 1950's. After watching this movie, I have much more respect for people who face struggles in everyday life because of prejudice. I suggest watching this movie if you enjoy uplifting movies that leave you with a sense of hope. All of the actors make the characters come alive in a very realistic way. Whoopi Goldberg portrays a strong willed negro woman who remains loyal to her white employers but still makes her opinion known to all those around her. She wants negroes to be treated with the same respect that whites are treated with. I now have a much better understanding of what people will be willing to do when their rights are put in jeopardy. I highly recommend watching this movie.
Movie Review: Christian morality and The Long Walk Home Summary: 4 StarsThe movie The Long Walk Home was a brilliant movie which shed a new light on the interaction between blacks and whites in the 1950's in Montgomery. Odessa, portrayed by Whoopi Goldberg, was a black woman - a tower of strength. She knew her beliefs and followed throught with them. Miriam Thompson, portrayed by Sissy Spacek, was also a beautiful character. She overcame the fear of her individuality and good morals - and she went against her husband and most of the white population to support the hated, oppressed black population. Marting Luther King Jr. once said, "the real heroes are those who courageously and with a majestic sense of purpose face erring and hostile mobs and agonizing loneliness". Truly, Odessa and Miriam were the real heroes, along with countless others who stood up for their beliefs. The movie The Long Walk Home was filled with truth and beauty, honesty and emotion. Seeing the movie in my Christian Morality class, I was at first a bit skeptical. However, by the end I had fallen in love with the wonderful film. It taught so much and I learned several important lessons about true Christian Morality.
Movie Review: Montgomery Bus Boycott Summary: 4 StarsI believe that this film was a great success. The film discusses many important issues that will in the end be a great help to others. Watching this film in class as an eleventh grader, I thought it taught me alot of important ideas. A little background information of the film "A Long Walk Home"is, it is about the famous bus boycott, that signifies the starting of the civil rights struggle in Montgomery, Alabama. A Black women Odessa Cotter is a maid for the Thompson family. The boycott occurs and this well loved women finds many opsticals starting to occur. Tension grows throughout the film, which also helps in making the viewer more focused on the main idea of the film. I would say that the main topic or point that the film illustrates to its viewers, is to believe in yourslef from the start. Follow through with your dreams. This film also made me remember a little saying that I knew as a child, "Believe in yourslef right from the start, if you have a BRAIN you'll have a great and truthful HEART".
Movie Review: My Moral Reveiw of The Lonh Walk HOme Summary: 4 StarsIn my eleventh grade Morality class, our teacher made us view The Long Walk Home in oreder to show a more real look to the segregation that existed in the South. The movie however went beyond my expectations and proved to more enjoyable and informative then I originally thought. The movie is a beautiful story that revolves around the historic Montgomery Bus Boycott. The characters are all strong and memorable, and are portrayed by amazingly convincing actors and actresses. The movie brings to life the real story and hardships felt by the negro society of America during these troubling times. The Long Walk Home is a movie that questions the morality princples that one lives by, and is also a movie that reveals the characters as both true to life and historically correct. The Long Walk Home is an amazing movie to watch when one wants to see the struggle of human goodness verse that of immoral attitudes. The movie also questions whether the viewer is a person who follows along with congregated crowd or if they follow the less traveled more righteous path.
