Movie Reviews of The Long Kiss Goodnight

Movie Review: Geena, you go.....
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm a good appreciator of Geena Davis movies and making her into a government assassin was a great idea. Her look was perfect for making the context hard to believe. I liked it .......

Movie Review: A big fat KISS
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, Geena Davis is HOT! Especially as a blond. Now that we got that out of the way, this movie is great. Jackson's role was perfect for him with his sarcastic sense of humor. It went perfectly with Davis' attitude. The duo was great together. A must see movie for anyone who likes action and/or comedy.

Movie Review: Good Action, Good Acting, Excellent Story
Summary: 5 Stars

I wish we could know more about Charlie Baltimore before she became Samantha. But yeah I agree with all of the good reviews. Geena Davis is totally believable as an action star.
Sam Jackson is excellent as always. Great Action..

Movie Review: Good Plot, Good Action, Good Acting
Summary: 5 Stars

DVD Scene 16. "She's Not There" by Santana.

Samantha Caine, "frumpy amnesiac housewife," has just been reintroduced to her alter ego, Charlene (Charly) Baltimore. Baltimore was a CIA assasin wounded in the line of duty, who awoke from the wounding, thinking she actually WAS cover personality Samantha Caine, from the assignment.

In this scene, the physical transformation is taking place, beginning where all transformations begin - in the water, in a shower where she washes the blood from a recent battle that caused her to remember. She wipes the fog from the bathroom mirror and sees the housewife self. She wipes it again and Charly's back. This diverse duo-in-one-body is brilliantly played by Geena Davis.

Samuel Jackson is a former cop gone cheap detective, Mitch Henessey, hired by Samantha Caine to help find her past. He locates a crucial postcard just as Caine remembers being Baltimore, and the two head out in midwinter in a car with no heat, into the middle of a foray of crooked government agents (and some very funny jokes, great dialogue) who want nothing more than to keep Charly Baltimore dead.

One of my favorite action scenes involves Geena Davis donning a pair of ice skates. Henessey (Jackson) is in a vehicle chase with three bad guys after him. Baltimore has seen the chase, grabbed her skates from her Samantha Caine household that she happens to be visiting at the time to recover a secret item, cuts out onto the ice in time for the chase to go past, shoots out a tire, causing the car to slide off of the road and onto the ice, directly heading toward her. She pummels exactly three bullets into each of the three hearts of the three passengers in the offending car.

That's just one of many very impressive action scenes. This movie didn't have much recovery time between major movement. There was a lot of blood but it wasn't too gory - OK, it was gory for one scene for about ten seconds, but you know it's coming, so you can cover your eyes (yes, eyes) if you want to!

Davis and Jackson play very well off of each other and I hope to see them headlining in another film together sometime.

A chef turned me on to this movie. Chefs do that.

Movie Review: Fun and exciting
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this movie!!!! It's got suspense, a twist, wry, witty humor, guns, and things blowing up! Oh, and don't forget CIA cover-ups and an assasin turned school-teacher turned assasin--pretty much everything you need for a night of good fun!

Who would think of Geena Davis as an action hero? She totally amazed me when I first saw The Long Kiss Goodnight. Of course we can all picture her as a grade-school teacher and mom, but her transformation to a ruthless killer with some funny one-liners is well-executed. And the chemistry between her and Samuel L. Jackson is good. He is the perfect foil for her. He gets some of the best lines in this movie. Please humor me while I share a couple of Mitchell Hennessey quotes(I'm doing this from memory rather than re-watching the DVD, so forgive me if I miss a word in there):

"Do you normally curse this much?...when I met you, you were all like, 'Oh, Phooey, I burned the darn muffins.' Now, you walk into a bar and ten minutes later, sailors come running out. What up with that?"

"What [she] failed to realize is that I'm always frank and earnest with women. In New York I'm Frank and in Chicago I'm Earnest."

You've got to love Samuel L. Jackson. I would have thrown in more quotes, but some of them are unsuitable for eyes & ears under 13. There is also a good performance by Craig Bierko who is cute but quite believable as a cutthroat murderer.

The music on this film is also good. Part of why I liked it so much is the 70's/80's songs that are used. It's hard to describe the songs, but they just fit really well with this movie.

The Long Kiss Goodnight is great fun because it's actually FUNNY. The humor is intelligent. It's not like some action films where you are hit over the head with idiotic banter that has no meaning . You could actually repeat several of these jokes outside of the context of the movie and get someone to laugh. I definately recommend it.
