Movie Reviews of The Long Gray LineMovie Review: The Long Gray Line Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of the greatest movies of all time. I have been known to set my alarm to get up and watch it at 3 a.m. or whenever it was on. It was just never on often enough. Imagine my joy to find that I can own a copy and watch it whenever I want. My mother has loved this movie, raised me to love it and I now have two daughters to fall in love with Marty Maher, Daddeo and Captain Darlin'. Pride, honor, decency, loyalty and love of country; all traits greatly lacking in today's society, but still valued by some of us. I highly recommend this movie.
Movie Review: A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE Summary: 5 StarsI was lucky enough to catch this film on AMC late one night and regretted immediately not taping it. In a discussion with my father, Lt. Col. Harry L. Wilson, Jr, who not only is a 1940 graduate of the USMA, but taught Chemistry and Mechanics there after graduation, he conveyed to me the rigors of becoming an expert horseman expected of all Academy graduates. I was astounded, as I have never seen my father on a horse. The sentimental aspects of the movie convinced me that I just HAD to buy this movie for my Dad so he could take a walk down memory lane.
Movie Review: why not to go to USMA Summary: 1 Starsthis movie shows the harsh truth about the USMA. Believe me, everything that goes on in this is true. and there is much more. -James Bobbies Maj. United States Army
Movie Review: Long Gray Line Summary: 5 StarsMy wife and I stumbled across this rare gem a few days ago on AMC. It began late in the evening, but we were unable to stop watching. It is a truly wonderful story, based on what I've come to learn is a book entitled BRINGING UP THE BRASS that was based on Technical Sargeant Martin Maher's life. The movie has all of the classical elements of John Ford including humor and poignancy, and I shall heartily recommend this film to my family and friends. It's nice to see patriotism and honor on film, even though it was 45 years ago!
Movie Review: Very nostalgic, value laden story of an earlier West Point. Summary: 5 StarsOne of John Ford's best, developed around T/Sgt Marty Maher's inspiring 50 years of service to the USMA cadets. Has become a very popular nostalgic treat since the video release, as its emphasis on character and patriotism were the inspiration of many young men in the late 1950's to consider military service. Should be a standard item in every high school/college video library to help inspire today's value-hungry young people.
