Movie Reviews of The Lone Gunmen - The Complete SeriesMovie Review: Nicely done. Great parodies and lots of fun. Summary: 5 StarsTHE ONLY DISSAPOINMENT. The series ended in a cliff hanger. The crazy area 51 "man in black" just about to kill all the heros of the show. AND no second season???????.
Is there a second season? Or at least some unreleased episodes? If for no other reason to complete the "to be continued" episode the closes the first year. If they exist please find them and fill in the blanks.
Movie Review: Glad to find this Summary: 4 StarsWhen this series first aired, I was kind of watching/listening with half my mind - and doing other things with the other half, and missed a few things leading to the jet plot. For whatever reason, I happened to be heading for the livingroom when the unforgettable image of a jet heading for the WTC was on the screen. First thought - damn, I should have watched the whole thing. Second thought (with a real queasy feeling), my god, if these writers can come up with an idea like this, couldn't someone else? I'm sure I did, but I sure don't remember breathing until that jet cleared the tower. Fast forward, to all those people after 9/11, who all kept spouting the same sad bloviation - no one could have predicted this.
Really? *NO ONE*?? Are the people responsible for the security of this country admitting they are less intelligent than scriptwriters? (Okay, we know it's true, but are they admitting it?)
As far as I know, that episode never reran. So I'm glad to find it out on DVD, along with the rest of the series. Darn it, I wanna see what I missed!
Movie Review: Loaded! Summary: 5 StarsAnother series that ended too quickly. A spin-off from X-Files, Lone Gunmen tackles mysteries of the more grounded manner. From escaped Nazi war criminals to tango-dancing Argentinian smugglers to suspected spies in a kiddie show, among others. The episodes are varied and very enjoyable. From the eerie pre-9/11 pilot to the tragic finale shown in X-Files, the DVD set shows the various misadventures of our comical trio in their quest for the truth.
One nit, however is, this could've been the definitive Lone Gunmen set if they included the X-Files episode "Unusual Suspects", which tells how the Lone Gunmen got together.
Movie Review: Another great one-hit wonder... Summary: 4 StarsGone but definitely not forgotten, The Lone Gunmen is, like Nowhere Man, one of the great former one-hit wonders on network TV whose fans are legion. Another Chris Carter brainchild, TLG, as a kind of spin-off of the X-Files, is radically different from its "parent" show in boasting a terrific sense of humor, an amazingly sexy woman (yeah, sorry, more than Gillian Anderson), three tremendously entertaining geeks (principally Richard Langly, played by Dean Haglund), occasionally very wacky plots, and an all-around ability to poke fun at a whole bunch of American social mores.
In between, there's definitely some serious stuff; in an astoundingly prescient pilot episode, a passenger plane is auto-programmed to crash into the World Trade Center. This aired eight months before 9/11. And a car that runs on water? With gas prices sky high today, that's more timely than ever.
Watch as our boys tangle with a grizzly bear gizzard-stealing poacher, tango to catch an Argentine drug smuggler (or is he?), take care of an abandoned baby, chat with a brainiac chimp, and generally louse up their social lives (oops, they don't HAVE any social lives) with saying the wrong thing at ANY time (i.e., not the right time or the wrong time...)
Because of the great sense of humor, I would even say this could be seen--uh oh, sacrilege alert!!--as more intelligent than The X-Files themselves, believe it or not. It's a ton of fun to watch and having this nicely packaged 3-disc DVD set is a keeper.
Do yourself a favor and check out The Lone Gunmen. It mixes lightweight bounce with some serious stuff, it makes you laugh, and you don't even have to take two aspirin and call a doctor in the morning. Nifty as all get out.
Yep.
Movie Review: heros to be...or not to be Summary: 5 StarsIf you were an x-files fan you knew the lonegunmen. If you didn't watch x-files, do so now. The boys cared! They were unconventional, often got in over their heads, and needed help. That didn't slow them down. If there was a wrong to right they were the first to act. impulsively. recklessly at times. With true fear in their hearts.
With the help of Jimmy Bond & "Lee Harvey Oswald" they usually carried the day. They were heros. Get the series. Watch & enjoy
