Movie Reviews of The Little Horse That Could: The Connemara Stallion, Erin Go Bragh

Movie Review: Educational
Summary: 4 Stars

My 5 1/2 year old daughter is a huge horse lover and enjoyed this video a lot. It follows a young woman as she cares for her horse and enters various competitions. It's very educational and informative--More of a documentary style. It's a great way to let your child know that horses are fun, but they involve a significant amount of dedicated work too!

Movie Review: My son's favorite
Summary: 5 Stars

We go to the library every week to get some variety of books and videos. My 3 year old son has watched every construction video they offer over the past 2 years. There are several good videos out there, but "I Dig Dirt" is the only one he repeatedly looks for every time we go. He just loves this video. I'm so tired of renting it that I'm here today to buy it. It wouldn't be my first pick, but it is my son's first pick, and that is what matters.

Movie Review: The greatest video
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best kids video ever. Both my sons have watched it over and over for years. My older son has insisted on singing "I Dig Dirt" at bedtime since he was 2, and my younger son's first complete sentence was "I dig dirt, yes I do"---in tune! The big machines and explosions are really cool. We're not tired of it after 3+ years. Get it for every kid you know.

Movie Review: More for the 5+ crowd
Summary: 2 Stars

It's difficult for my toddler to appreciate this video. The sheer size and complex mechanics of the machines featured in this video are fascinating to adults and older children. But not enough action and variety for those under 5. The same song is repeated throughout the video; variety of songs would have been better. Not bad, but not one of our favorites.

Movie Review: I Dig it again and again and again...
Summary: 5 Stars

My (at the time) 16 month old son received it as a loan from a friend. They're not getting it back. Previously, he had been into the Baby Einstein series off and on, but never quite got into Teletubbies or Elmo or Barney (thank goodness from Mommy's perspective.) He has always been fascinated by trucks and machinary. The first time he saw this he was mesmerized. After a few days, he would point at the box or pick up the tape and try to put it into the VCR himself. (No oatmeal in the VCR for this one - knows it might prevent him from seeing his favorite). The theme song is catchy and tends to stick in your brain for weeks. (Grandma left from a visit and said she could still here it a week later.)

It mixes actions of kids playing with construction equipment (an insufficient warning at the beginning says don't do this at home) and real narration from real construction workers, without any silliness or patronizing tone, make it a palatable tape to sit through again and again and again...
