Movie Reviews of The Life and Times of Mr. Perfect

Movie Review: Not Perfect
Summary: 2 Stars

Last year, WWE had an influx of some of the best dvds ever to his the market from September till the end of the year. This year we saw the cancellation of two awesome sets-Sting and Randy Savage. There is a Starcade dvd set that was going to be released and that is up in the air. The WWE has replaced most sets but nothing has gotten me excited like last year. History of Intercontinental Championship is the only dvd that looks good; Yet we voted for the matches on WWE.com and they only let us choose two per decade. Wow, what a set!

Now all you reviewers reaching for the non-helpful button, heres my review for this product. The cover says 90 minute documentary but its a few minutes off. The documentary is decent. I like how they seemed to bury Scott Hall when Henning and Hall were teaming in the AWA. I guess Hall will not show up in WWE anytime soon. They talk more of his life outside of the ring rather then in the ring. Thats ok, he was a great talent all around. A rather fast paced documentary. They did talk about his release but it was because of what happened on a WWE over seas trip. Mr.Perfect was messing with the world champion on a flight and they couldn't have that. Its a good story, look it up. The incident also cost Scott Hall his job. I didnt even know Henning showed up in TNA after his release. Again, WWE rewriting or covering up history.

Matches: 10?! Come on. They show amazing footage thru out the whole dvd and we can only get 10 matches. Bullsh&^. I would like too see the Lawler match, more of WCW matches-something WWE never really does, a Flair match from 1993, and some of his comeback matches of 2002. Alot of his return WWE matches looked very good. When you open the dvd, you see him using a perfect plex on Bam Bam Bigelow. That would have been an awesome match to watch. The matches are good but could have been better.

Overall, not a perfect dvd. Could have been much better, but not the worst WWE dvd release.

Movie Review: Documentary makes up for short match listing
Summary: 4 Stars

I will admit that I did enjoy this release, particularly the documentary portion. But I still can't wrap around my head some of the weak releases WWE is being famous for putting out concerning matches. I always enjoyed watching the late great Curt Hennig in the ring. The documentary does his legacy some justice. They were also kind enough to add in a large amount of vignettes. I find this portion to be very important because it pushes the "Mr. Perfect" character very well. Too bad once again, another legend of the ring is given a very small list of matches. The match selections are short changed and there should have been more. But on the positive side, the matches chosen are very good.

I will give credit where it's due. I found the documentary outstanding. WWE were pretty much on point here. They just didn't toss out a bunch of random stars for the dimmest of reasons. You will hear from important individuals in Curt's life and career. His wife and son get a reasonable amount of time. His father Larry "The Axe" Hennig talks about some of his early career. Greg Gagne's interview was very interesting because he was able to relate to Hennig. Others including Ric Flair and Arn Anderson, just to name a couple get some time in. I really don't want to add in big spoilers. I came into this DVD set with no knowledge on it at all. I will say that by the time it was over. I feel that I learned a few more things. And I was very satisfied with how detailed certain things were explained.

Even though I consider the matches to be the weakest point. I will point out the obvious and say the matches with Bret Hart are a sight to see. Jim Ross hit the nail on the head when he stated, Bret and Curt's matches were peices of art. If you never seen these matches, you'll most likely agree.

The DVD set is two disk with the second containing a majority of the matches. The matches during the WWE and WCW era contain full entrances.

Overall this was a solid release to me. But I do have my complaints concerning the matches especially. First of all, there should have been more, period. And I'll always be a huge Bret fan. But three matches with Bret is too much. Plus two matches can be found on the Summerslam Anthology. But this appears to be as good as its going to get. I feel it's worth the money for the doc alone.

Movie Review: An almost Perfect dvd
Summary: 4 Stars

This is dvd is worth getting for the heart felt documentary. It's even in informative for me since I didn't even know that cocaine was the cause of his death. I also like how his rap is crpa video is here and how his Hall of Fame Induction is included. There's a small list of matches though when their should be more. I mean a lot of fans of his like myself have waited years for this dvd and it will probably be the only dvd ever released for him. So, I wish they went all out match wise.

When I heard he once teamed up with Scott Hall in the AWA I was curious. It's nice that one match with them teaming up is here even if it's a non-title match where Steve Regal and Jim Garvin are champs. While a good singles match is included against another late great in Eddie Gilbert but it's just a time limit drawer. His AWA World title win from Nick Bockwinkel isn't here as well. I don't know why the match where he actually won the title isn't included. You also have 3 classics against Bret Hart. He always worked great with Bret even if I don't think he ever beat him. Their King of the Ring Tournament match isn't here though, that was another good match between them.

What I don't like about the match choices is that he lost a lot of the ones that the WWE chose to have. He was much much better than Hogan yet he always had to put over his lame moves and was even stuck in his shadow in WCW. So, I think his matches with Flair should have been included instead. They were good matches and he at least won most of their matches against each other. I think Flair might have beat him when he had his redneck gimmick in WCW. I also think that his U.S title win should have been included, not because Mongo was in his league but because it was Hennig's only single title reighn WCW. His only WCW match included is against Bret, when he didn't only have good matches with Bret there. I also liked his matches there against Jeff Jarrett, DDP, Flair and Dean Malenko.

Benoit too of course but I'm not even going to bother asking why their matches weren't included. I haven't seen their matches in years though and do wish the WWE will release them on dvd or WWE 24/7 some day. I like the dvd for what it is but I do think the WWE should do what TNA has done and that's release 2nd and 3rd volumes for their dvds. Hennig had a lot more than just 12 good matches. I just don't understand why the WWE works so hard to do a good documentary and include other good extras. Yet, have a shortage of matches for one of the best late great wrestlers.

Movie Review: Plenty of great matches and extras to make this a Perfect set.

A very good mix, although surprising to have three Bret matches. Still, having the classic "Rap is Crap" video makes this a must-have disc perfectly (pun intended) fitting for a late great competitor.

Movie Review: Awesome Concept- DREADFUL line-up
Summary: 3 Stars

Ok, no doubt this dvd will be a cool piece of nostalgia. Who didnt love Mr. Perfect. The documentary will be cool- but thats where it ends.
What the hell kind of match lineup is that? Nothing vs Flair? Perfect and Savage vs Razor and Flair? What about on Monday Night Primetime when he turned on Bobby Heenan? i dunno...great idea, absolutely craptacular match lineup.
