Movie Review: Great TV Movie, Filled with Fun and All Around Adventure
Summary: 4 Stars
Flynn (Noah Wylie) is a career student who still lives with his mother (Olympia Dukakis). He has just been booted from school. His professor felt twenty-two degrees was enough and Flynn should give the real world a try.
He ends up landing a job as the librarian at the Metropolitan Library and it is there that the adventure begins. This library is not what you would call a typical library. It houses such things as the Ark of the Covenant, Pandora's Box, and a feisty Excalibur.
When the Serpent Brotherhood steals the library's piece of the Spear of Destiny, it is Flynn who must track down and retrieve the other two pieces. The fate of the world rests in his hands.
I found the movie to be a whole lotta fun. Corny and silly at times, but that was all part of its charm. The special effects were well done for a TV movie and cool to watch. Wyle does well as Flynn, giving him a bumbling, quirky charm. I liked the character Nicole, who is his protection, and a bit twisted too. When she smiles, you know crazy things are about to happen - like them having to jump off a cliff, or getting to flex her muscles a bit.
Jane Curtin and Bob Newhart play staff members of the library and both did well in their performances, lending well to the humor aspect of the story. Curtin and her stern "remember to get receipts for everything" reminders and Newhart and his deadpan deliverances. Plus his show stealing, head bashing performance at the end. Hah!
All in all, I had fun watching this. I can easily toss this one into the same categories of action movies (only a smaller scale version of) as the Indiana Jones movies and the Mummy ones too. An adventure that's just great to watch.

What a great movie! As a sci-fi/adventure movie junkie this was right up my alley! It's more of a comedic/scholastic version of Indiana Jones. I hope there will be future "Librarian" movies to come!Movie Review: Lighthearted fun

I enjoyed this movie when it first ran on one of those cable TV networks, and I still enjoy it today. I love how far-fetched -- and campy -- the plot is, and Bob Newhart is fantastic in his role. It's the perfect movie if you just want to unwind and have fun. I was left with the impression that the entire cast really enjoyed being a part of the film. It's the kind of script I loved getting when I was involved in theater in high school and college. Personally, I liked "The Librarian" better than "National Treasure," although NT wasn't too bad. This is a "fun ride" adventure spoof. It contains all the necessary elements- the classic confrontation between good and evil,fast-paced action, improbable escapes, clever dialogue, and a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. The movie features special effects that are not only well done, but also believable. Noah Wylie and Sonia Walger are perfectly cast as the unlikely hero/heroine team on a seemingly impossible mission. Overall, this movie is good fun, and worth watching more than once. This was the worst movie I have EVER seen. I liked thehistorical references, but this film was SOOOOOOO unrealistic I was baffled that it was made at all, let alone shown on TNT. I watched it cause of Noah Wyle and me loving his role on ER, but I tell you what. The man cannot act.
It was about this guy who was a professional student and had somehow managed to get 22 degrees - 26, twenty something degrees and was only in his thirties. Living with his mother. Never had a date, girlfriend, etc. His professor for some ancient Egyptian course he was taking kicked him out of school and told him he should start living life and enjoying it.....so he starts looking for a job. Then magically he gets a blank card that words appear on and it's a job offer for a library. Ooooooooohhhhhhh I was on the edge of my seat....
He gets there and there is a line for a position....the Librarian. Why was that so exciting? Beyond the fact that you get to take care of books? Just kidding.....he was actually auditioning to be the keeper of some artifacts. Which was awesome....Excalibur, a jet pack (?????where did that come in????), Pandoras Box, the Holy Grail, a Unicorn....you get the idea. In addition to this, turns out the Librarian is the smartest person in the world (where else would all those degrees get you??) and the protector of the fate of the world. Oh yes, the world.
Then he goes on some stupid adventure with this woman who wasn't that cute and long story short, saves the world from the Order of the Serpentine. It was like...so dumb....I couldn't stop watching.....but wanted to shoot my foot because it would have been a distraction.
I don't recommend this one.
