Movie Reviews of The Last Emperor (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: A great film given great BluRay treatment
Summary: 5 Stars

The Last Emperor has always been a favorite of mine. The story of the last Emperor if China and his eventual transition into Chairman mao's China. The film honestly shows life in the Forbidden City, it's isolation from the real world, it's internal politics and corruptions. But the main line is the child emperor growing up in the city with only his courtier and an English teacher as company. The whole film is rich in colour, movement and sound. The video transition to the blu-ray format is stunning. More detail in shaded areas and a richness of full bodied colours that was just not possible on DVD. The Audio has benefited greatly from a fine DTS HD Master Audion track along with a stereo track for those who need it. Definitely amongst the best transfers to date.

Movie Review: Criterion's Blu-ray of The Last Emperor dazzles the senses
Summary: 5 Stars

Criterion has done it again. Its blu-ray of The Last Emperor finally does justice to one of the few great films produced since the movie business went downhill in the 1980s, and is now giving us such sickening garbage as Hostel and Saw. The only caveat - Criterion may want to relook its packaging for Blu-ray discs; it's a big step down from the gorgeous package it delivered for the earlier DVD release of The Last Emperor - it has become so obvious just how mediocre and obsolete that the DVD format is now that we have Blu-ray. Here's hoping Criterion re-releases The Spy Who Came in From the Cold and The Magnificent Obsession on Blu-ray - and quickly!!

Movie Review: Previous reviews incorrect.
Summary: 5 Stars

The shorter version of the film is the director's preferred version of the film. The longer version was a version he had cut for television distribution, and while its a shame that the extended version will not be included, rest assured that the shorter version is the director's cut of the film.

Movie Review: Great Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best movies that I have in my collection. The Blu Ray version is excellant. The colors are so vibrant and the sound is great. It is the story of the last emperor of China, Pu Yi. It is well worth the money and the time to watch.

Movie Review: Spectacular Film In Spectacular High Definition
Summary: 5 Stars

Although I will watch the director's cut next time on DVD, I can say seeing this film for the first time it really looks spectacular and the HD version is so clear it looks like it was filmed yesterday. Great movie.
