Movie Reviews of The Last DragonMovie Review: More than corn Summary: 5 Stars
A lot of the folks who've written positive reviews of this film put it in the 'cheesy fun' or 'guilty pleasure' category. Not to ruin anyone's enjoyment by going deep, but there's more to it than that. 'Camp' is a better description because the over-the-top elements are more self-conscious and purposive. 'Camp' might be defined as the co-existense of cheese and wit in the same space. Not just the actors, but the characters, are all role-playing, and the 'moral' is that happiness comes from finding a good persona to perform. It's a very 80s, upbeat, define-your-own identity kind of thing. Biology (e.g. race) is not destiny -- except maybe for the white guy villian who can't escape his own stupidity. Otherwise, there's the Black Pizza Restaurant, Blacks acting like Asians, and Asians acting like blacks -- all having a good time. A utopian vision of an MTV world, if only it were true!! And how can you beat a film that opens with a kung fu sensei sending his young charge Bruce LeRoy off to seek the wisdom of the high master Sum Dum Goy!
Movie Review: Awesome movie Summary: 5 Stars
I fell in love with this movie as kid in the 80's and had to add it to my collection on DVD this time! Ahhh the 80's were a pretty good time for entertainment. We had Prince, Vanity, Shelia E my favorite! Vanity and Shelia E really worked it back then when sexy was classy! Vanity with the Last Dragon and Sheila with Crush Groove!! Two movies you want to keep in your collection. I think all the actors did a superb job in this movie. You know how sometimes you can actually spot a first time actor, that wasn't the case in this movie. Rather they were first time or not they all delivered wonderful believable performances. I think Vanity would have gone on to be an Oscar winning actress if she were still in entertainment. She had such raw talent that would have landed her some major roles. She's a happy go loving evangelist now. Anyway The Last Dragon get 2 thumbs up in a circle back in the 80's and 2 thumbs up and a fist bump in 2009 love this movie still!!!
Movie Review: A memorable villian and beautiful damsel in distress. Summary: 5 Stars
Bruce LeeRoys confrontation with Shonuff is a classic in my mind! "The Last Dragon" is one of my old time favorites. I'm not a big fan of martial arts, but this movie was great. I love this movie. I saw it also when I was 12, and I have seen it about dozen times. The soundtrack is great, the acting is terrible but great, and the humor is so campy that you'll want to watch it over and over. Not to mention that Tiamak (Bruce Leroy) has a pretty decent spin-crescent kick! I've had a crush on Taimak since I was 12! I especially liked his workout scenes. Vanity is beautiful and talented also, sadly they haven't continued on their career strongly the way they should.
The "Last Dragon" had combined the martial arts in a way that has never been done before including humor, music and romance. I'm glad that they had re-released it and put it on DVD because so many people had request for it. If you have not seen it I'd highly recommend it!!
Movie Review: A Real Entertaining Film Summary: 5 Stars
Well this is one movie me and my friends used to watch again and again. We liked it for the Shogun of Harlem character and the Motown soundtrack running through the film.Homages are paid to Bruce Lee throughout the film including the famous scene from Enter The Dragon with Bob Wall on Han's island.A touch of romance and some good Martial Arts action this film seems to be a bit crazy at times but very enjoyable.Apart from Vanity does not really boast any major stars but I have a feeling it was never really meant to.Made in 85' it is now 25 years old now , and unless you are used to the way they made films back in the 80s you will struggle a bit with it.Bruce Leroy goes to find a force called "The Glow" and along the way must do battle with The Shogun and a crazy record producer hell bent on getting Vanity to play his singers songs on her hit television show.So sit back and have a real laugh with Berry Gordy's "The Last Dragon".
Movie Review: The Last Dragon Fan Review Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very good quality movie, but I am a little bias. I grew up watching this movie and hearing quotes from it from my older brothers. It has a fair amount of action and some music that will get stuck in your head by the end. I thought the movie had a good unique personality for an action/music/romance/comedy movie. It is from the '80s so fans of strictly newer movies may not like this because of the music, style, and language in the movie. It is definitely a memorable movie and one that I think everybody should watch at least once even if you're not a big action fan because it has a good mix of a lot of elements. It is one of the only movies that I can watch a lot of times in a short period and not get bored. Get some friends and watch this movie, but just don't take it too seriously though because you will miss out on a lot of good moments in the movie.
