"The Lair" on Here! TV

Gay Horror

For those of you lucky enough to have cable and get Here! TV then you are already familiar with the new series, "The Lair". For those of you aren't quite that lucky maybe you should think about subscribing. Not only will you get "The Lair" but you will get other fine programs. Now you can buy the first season of "The Lair" on a two disk DVD set.
"The Lair" is an unapologetic look to the horror film but with a gay point of view. It is a vampire series that will have you on the edge of your seat for two reasons--the story and the beautiful men and sex. Here! TV does not shy away from male frontal nudity and the eyes are extremely good looking and the script is literate and well performed.
Somewhere in a small town on an island young handsome men are being discovered after they are dead. They all have very nasty neck wounds. Thom, a young journalist, sets out to investigate what is going on with the very mysterious "John Doe" murders. He receives a lead that takes him to a local sex club called "The Lair". It appears that the dead guys are I some way linked to the club and Thom is determined to find out what is going on.
When Thom meets with a very strange young man named Jonathan, he hears of "The Lair" for the first time. His curiosity takes him on a journey of finding out the truth about the club and to see if, indeed, the club has anything to do with the murders. The beautiful photography and the musical soundtrack add greatly to the suspense of the series and many of the issues that are dealt with are very true and real. Some of the intrigue we get in the first season, which is all I have seen, will undoubtedly be explained in later episodes. During the first episode we meet the main characters, Thom, Jonathan, Damian and others.
In the second episode, Jonathan's body has been found facedown in the river bank but unlike the others before him, he is still alive but in a coma. After being transported to a hospital, he lays comatose. Damian, a vampire, and head of the Lair lets others know that he wants to finish Jonathan off. Thom, having little knowledge and almost totally unaware of what is going on, soon finds out that vampires are in his midst but first he stops by the hospital to pay his unconscious boyfriend a visit and to hope that he Jonathan will come around.
Another character named Eric joins the group at The Lair and Damian initiates him and brings him to the "inner sanctum" which is full of many hunky men who have risen from the dead (or is it that they were never dead?). Thom makes a visit to The Lair soon afterwards, trying to get information on what caused his boyfriend to lay in a coma. Damian puts him into a trance, one that is near fatal, but a friend, Laura, finds him before it is too late. The two of them approach two others to try to get some answers but instead get only more questions. While this is going is going on, Damian is going for Jonathan.
Thom meets Damian in Jonathan's hospital room and it appears that Thom reminds Damian of a certain Richard Devere, a man who had painted his portrait two centuries before. Devere was the only man that Damian ever loved and it was Devere that gave Damian immortality by giving him the bite of the vampire and the capacity for evil. Damian eventually killed Devere but he believes that Thom is a reincarnation of the man.
And this is where season one ends.
The production of the series is lush and keeps you watching from episode to episode. It is a new genre in gay film that you do not want to miss.
