Movie Review: Simply BEAUTIFUL.
Summary: 5 Stars
A lovely tale of an untraditional relationship that encompasses the traditional Chinese virtue of fillial duty that has touched everyone we have lent the DVD to. If you are an instant gratification type person though, bear through the first few moments during which the director takes their time in unfolding the story; the ending is definitely worth the wait. I love Chinese cinema,so I expected this to be a good film from the get-go...but even I was taken aback by the simple,heart-wrenching story(with a happy ending),and so were my 8 and 14 year-old sons.The subtitles are easy to read,and while it's true their aren't a lot of extras on the dvd-this is such a beautiful movie that it doesn't need gimmicks.You just need to see it.Movie Review: Wonderful Film

This is one of the best films to come out recently. My only crticism is of the DVD release format. It is released in "Full Screen" mode rather than the aspect ratio the film was released in. I can only presume it will ultimately be released in its theatrical aspect verson. Had I known (didn't read the fine print) I would have rented the movie and waited.Movie Review: Get it

In an age of mediocre movies, meaningless special effects and ridiculously exploding cars this movie stands out for having a serious theme, outstanding acting and brilliant plot. In contrast to the well known Chinese bias against females this movie shows the viciousness of such a view and the foundation of what constitutes the real value of a human being. Even though I saw this movie years ago it still comes up in conversation and will forever be one of my favorite movies. I'm glad to finally have it on DVD and gave my sister a copy for her birthday. Although my brother-in-law was originally not interested in seeing this movie,even he was pulled into this wonderful story and really enjoyed it.
