Movie Reviews of The King of MasksMovie Review: King of Masks Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't seen the DVD, this review is from the theatrical film.A brilliant film, with the best peformance by a child since "Ponnette". Diretor Wu Tianming has said "I wanted to make this film because I fear society is forgetting our Chinese traditions. These traditions emphasized the value of morality and ethics, proper manners, a sense of honor, and taking care of each other." A wonderful story of the friendship between a street performer and a child.
Movie Review: Fine movie, DVD disaster Summary: 5 Stars
The film is compelling, touching, memorable. It transcends my normal mistrust of sentimental movies. What a contrast between these characters and those in the typical Hollywood crud. Child actors normally leave me cold, but the young girl in this film is brilliant. The rest of the cast is flawless. What a disgrace that Columbia Tristar released it only as "formatted to fit your TV." They mangled it. Fortunately there is also a Hong Kong version available that is widescreen.
Movie Review: Wow !! Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished watching "King of Masks" . What a movie it was !! The story is about a street performer who has a family skill of changing the masks in snap. The old guy doesn't have any heir as his only son had died. He buys a girl mistaking him to be a boy. He treats her well and the girl is happy with the old man until he discover that she is a girl and then its girl's struggle to win back old man's affection. Its very nice and heartwarming. I loved every bit of it.
Movie Review: Enchanting Summary: 5 Stars
Two years ago, I saw this film on an airplane to the Orient. There, despite the roar of engines, the pain of the foolish, never-fitting earphones, and a tiny screen, I became enchanted with the picture and have been trying to buy it ever since. It is a touching tale of an orphan who is "acquired" by a foster father that lives on a river boat and has a special talent. Full of drama, emotion, and especially Chinese cultural insight. Super!
Movie Review: Simply BEAUTIFUL. Summary: 5 Stars
An amazingly moving tale of an untraditional relationship reflecting the traditional Chinese virtue of filial love and duty. While the director takes their time in unfolding the story in the beginning, persist to the end and you will not be sorry you watched this movie. Everyone we have lent the movie to, from young to old, have been moved by the tale. Makes a wonderful gift for even the most critical and intellectual of movie watchers!
