I really enjoyed this old movie...I ran accross a copy of the old book in an antique store a few months ago..thought it sounded familar..read the book, loved it...and couldn't wait to see the movie..so glad Amazon has a lot of the oldies but goodies...so I was able to have a copy of the movie as well as the book...as always the book was better, and would recomend anyone to read the book...that liked the movie...Keep up the good work Amazon...Movie Review: Classic movie

I found the movie to from a time when action was not the only thing to keep a viewer happy. I foud the movie easy to follow and the charator real. Lately it seems that holywood can only make remakes from prior years, bringing way too old actors out of retirement to recreate past charactors, or a way to pass some hidden political agenda. This is an old movie beautifully acted by a young Gregory Peck. It is a low keyed story of a young Catholic priest who humbly follows the will of God, leading a simple life as a missionary, eventually retiring and beloved by many. There is a bit of old fashioned war action and gentle humor in this black and white movie. We had never remembered seeing this before. As fans of Gregory Peck, we bought this basically sight unseen. He didn't disappoint at all. The plot is sweet with some bitter problems and difficulties in the main character's life. Keep in mind what year this story begins. There are many lessons that we can take away even today. Families can watch this one together and enjoy it! No swearing or bed hopping in this one...
