Movie Reviews of The Keys of the Kingdom

Movie Review: One of Pecks Best
Summary: 5 Stars

I rented this a long time ago with little expectations. I was very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Peck plays Father Fancis Chisolm. The begining is hilarious when you hear what counsel he gave a heavy set woman in his congregation. The movie starts at the end of his life and as another priest comes and reads his diary, his whole life is unfolded. What a rough life, but what a good man! If you love good old fashioned movies with a moral to the story, you will love this one. Peck plays the under dog. A man who is very humble. This movie will make you laugh, cry, angry, etc. Has it all! Great christian flick! Glad to see it finally out on DVD. Great movie for the whole family to watch together. I would give it more stars if I could. Another good movie from a Christian perspective is "Stars In My Crown". Hope that comes out on DVD soon!!!

Movie Review: Keys of the Kingdom
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw 'Keys of the Kingdom' when I was a 6th grader in a Catholic school and, even then, thought it was a sweet and gentle movie. When my 86 year old mother was decrying the fact that there are no longer any "good" movies on TV, I started buying "good" movies for her viewing. The first such movie was 'Keys of the Kingdom', which follows the life and adventures of a Scottish Catholic priest from childhood to his time as a missionary in China until his retirement to his boyhood home in Scotland. A very young Gregory Peck is magnificent in the role as well as other legendary actors as Thomas Mitchell and Vincent Price. We watched this movie over the Thanksgiving holiday and then again on Christmas--a wonderful movie!

Movie Review: The measure of success
Summary: 5 Stars

So little is called success by the world. But success in the eyes of God entails dying to self and giving all we have for the sake of the kingdom. Humility and a joy that comes from acknowledging life as a gift even in the disappointments and setbacks that make us appear to be failures, that is how God measures success. It is a rare jewel when we find a production where Hollywood 'gets it.' Mother Teresa used to say that God did not require results, only faithfulness. This is a moving and inspiring story of one who went practically unnoticed to the world but, of whom the scripture says, 'the world was not worthy.' Very well done indeed.

Movie Review: THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM!
Summary: 5 Stars

I FIRST SAW THIS BEAUTIFUL FILM WHEN I WAS PROBABLY IN GRADE SCHOOL (AT LEAST 60 YEARS AGO). I WAS SO MOVED BY THE BEAUTY AND THE MESSAGE OF THIS FILM THAT IT REMAINS JUST ABOUT MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIMES, ALTHOUGH I DO HAVE MANY THAT I ENJOY SO MUCH. I READ THE BOOK LONG AGO AND LOVED IT JUST AS MUCH AS THE MOVIE. AS AN OLDER WOMAN, I REALIZE THERE ARE SO MANY PRECIOUS AND DEAR PEOPLE, WHO HAVE THE SAME VALUES IN THEIR LIFE. IN ALL THESE TROUBLED TIMES, THIS KIND OF PICTURE INSPIRES US AND GIVES SUCH HOPE. I THANK AMAZON FOR HAVING THIS AVAILABLE. AS YOU CAN SEE, I BOUGHT TWO - NOT JUST ONE!

Movie Review: Elegance
Summary: 5 Stars

What a beautiful film! What a fair film! What a great story! Hollywood is afraid to make movies with this much integrity and truth today. There was an elegance and a reality to this story that today's films do not know. Peck is wonderful and the Chinese characters are never patronized. They sometimes steal the scene, and for the time it was made, this is wonderful. Seminaries should use this film in the training of priest and missionaries. Hollywood should use this to train directors, actors, and writers!
