Movie Reviews of The Kennel Murder CaseMovie Review: Fast-paced murder mystery Summary: 4 Stars
Quick-paced locked-room murder mystery starring William Powell as the suave detective Philo Vance in what is easily the best entry in the series. A man is found murdered in his locked bedroom (stabbed first then shot) and Powell goes through a large number of suspects before he (and his dog - suspects are all members of a Long Island kennel club) tracks down the killer. Powell is perfect as Vance, and the action unfolds with lightning speed, thanks to Michael Curtiz's solid direction: he pans from one scene to the next in a flash; the camerawork is also excellent for 1933. Mary Astor adds charm, though the picture could use more umph in the love- interest department. Classy and interesting whodunit.
Movie Review: Philo Vance Is A Genius Summary: 4 Stars
THE KENNEL MURDER CASE is an old-fashioned detective movie complete with a locked room mystery and a case of mistaken identity. The detective work by the hero Philo Vance is brilliant. The film is based on a novel by S.S. Van Dyne. It is a fun movie even though the story takes place during the height of the Great depression in New York City. The role of Vance is played convincingly by William Powell. The strong supporting cast includes Eugene Pallette, Mary Astor, Ralph Morgan, Jack LaRue, Helen Vinson, Etienne Girardot and Paul Cavanaugh. The film's director Michael Curtiz also directed CASABLANCA and YANKEE DOODLE DANDY.
Movie Review: The Kennel Murder Case Summary: 4 Stars
A good transfer to disc. Typical of the 'detective genre' in the 30s which kept grandma and grandpa fascinated. Often very low budget but nice to watch even today. William Powell is always good. In this as in the Thin Man series he is a consumate actor.
As a bonus this good old movie is on a budget label which is easy on the wallet.
Movie Review: William Powell is wonderful Summary: 4 Stars
This movie was a little long with not enough substance to warrant its length. But William Powell is an actor's actor in this one. Totally natural and believable as the detective who's just slightly a scoundrel himself. Very smooth.

I love this movie. I know it's pretty old, probably this is why the picture wasn't the best. Came quickly and no problems.
