Movie Reviews of The Karate Kid II

Movie Review: daniel-san gets all the girls.......
Summary: 4 Stars

this time mr. miyagi catches the fly....

Movie Review: Wax on, wax off won't get you far here
Summary: 3 Stars

Part II picks up where the first one left off. Daniel has triumphed over the bullies of the Cobra Kai dojo, and finished high school. Mr. Miaghi has gotten word that his father in Okinawa is dying, so he and Daniel rush off to Asia to be at his side. While there Miaghi is confronted by a former friend / bitter enemy, revisiting a love triangle, and resolving a feud he left years ago. Daniel meets up with his own conflicts: creating an enemy (who just happens to be the nephew of Miaghi's enemy, Sato), meeting his own next love in a semi-triangle (who just happens to be the neice of Miaghi's lost love), and resolving his own feud.

This was just a little too predictable this time around. Miaghi and Daniel being in parallel planes was a little too ridiculous, and the resolution between Miaghi and Sato was known from the beginning. The pace of the movie was a little too slow, Daniel didn't ease up with his Jersey smart guy routine as we'd hoped he would from the first, and the final conflict was both predictable and cheesey. It boardered on campy quite frankly.

But, there are some good messages still in this movie. It reinforced the important relationship between teacher and student, showed that it's important to have inner strength over muscle strength, and of course, the conflict and ultimate triumph of good over evil.

Movie Review: The Glory of Karate
Summary: 3 Stars

"We'll live forever, knowing together that we did it all for the Glory of Love..." The sweeping strains of that Peter Cetera theme song still choke me up. If the first "Karate Kid" set the standard, then "The Karate Kid: Part Two" cemented the legend. Watch as Mr. Miyagi confronts the culture he left behind in Okinawa. Remember, this kindly old guru of the martial arts was an American WWII vet, so his former Japanese compatriots are less than thrilled at his return. Meanwhile, Daniel-San takes on local hood Chozen, breaking it down while breaking glass as the Moody Blues blare on the soundtrack. The romance, the courage, the honor, the camaraderie is all here, as Daniel learns the eternal secret to making some dude's nose honk. "Live or die, man." To live in a world without " The Karate Kid" just wouldn't be the same.

Movie Review: DEFINITELY NOWHERE NEAR AS COOL AS THE ORIGINAL
Summary: 3 Stars

THIS TIME AROUND, DANIEL AND MR. MIYAGI [RALPH MACCHIO AND PAT MORITA] GO TO JAPAN TO CONFRONT ONE OF MR. MIYAGI'S OLD ENEMIES. DEFINITELY NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS ITS PREDECESSOR, BUT IT'S PRETTY DECENT. AT LEAST THE ACTING IS STILL GOOD. IF YOU STILL HAVEN'T SEEN THIS SEQUEL, IT'S OK TO WATCH, IF YOU'RE CURIOUS ABOUT HOW THIS MOVIE IS LIKE. BUT, THE SEQUELS WOULD GET WORSE AND WORSE AFTER THIS. SO IN ALL SERIOUSNESS, THIS IS THE LAST OF THE WATCHABLE MOVIES IN THIS SERIES.

Movie Review: Contrived.
Summary: 3 Stars

The Karate Kid Part II is no way as memorable as the orginial but at least it's not unwatchable like Part III. Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita have always had this natural chemistry - you can tell they were really good friends on camera and off. Some of the acting from the supporting cast is just plain awful and the pace of the film is rather slow. So-so sequel - stick to the orginial.
