A long time ago an African American friend criticized this movie because it was racist. I'm white and couldn't understand her perspective, that was before VHS and it was impossible to view the movie when I wanted to. Years past and I had kids, we rented it one day and I was horrified at the lyrics sung by Louie, the ape. Do you really want your children listening to an ape singing (with an exagerated Southern accent), "I want to be a man... An ape like me can learn to be human...Someone like me can learn to be someone like you..." It is very racist and we didn't finish the movie. Think about it.Movie Review: The Jungle Book

My purchase of this DVD was for replacement. For animation lovers, this one is terrific: vivid colors, attention to detail, well done. Of course, the story is loosely based on Rudyard Kipling's work, but entrancing to all. My children, both now in college, enjoyed this story while youngsters and still watch it every once in a while. This was a special gift to our son, who first saw the original Jungle Book in the theater when he was approximately 10 years old. This movie has always rated HIGH in his collection. Now that he is in the movie industry, himself, this special 40th Anniversary Platium Edition was a MUST in his DVD library.
