Movie Reviews of The Jack BullMovie Review: Glorious, amazing!!! Summary: 5 StarsAn absolutely refreshing film about a man who values justice, truth, and integrity more greatly than anything, including himself. While it may be a western, it is a timeless tale that applies to any society in any age. We could use a few more Myrl Reddings in our time.
Movie Review: Justice In The Territory Summary: 5 StarsI've watched this movie countless times and each time i watch it, it moves me even more. Meryl Redding dies for the things in which he believes in. I love horses and I think the saddest part of this movie is the fact that with the condition that the two stallions were in there would be know way to get them back to the way they were before.
Movie Review: Cusack's Lesson of a Lifetime Summary: 5 StarsIt is extraordinarily difficult to instill principles into a human soul, and I truly believe that, for Hollywood to accomplish this, the movie must sincerely be great. This film is just that. I know without a shadow of a doubt that it's the best movie I have ever laid eyes on. The atmosphere that John Cusack creates around his character Myrl Redding takes my breath away. Myrl's justifiable audacity and unstoppable character renewed my own sense of the truths I was taught under my family. This movie reminded me that deep down it's not the tangible things we should fight for, it's the abstract ideas of truth and right. Those are the most vital concepts we need to learn. I was tremendously impressed with all involved but especially with Cusack. I was not surprised at his greatness as an artist in this because I have come to expect nothing less from him. I never walk away from his movies unsatisfied with his ability as an actor to believably portray his characters. But he took my level of respect for him (which was already high) to a new level. He is obviously by far the best actor in Hollywood, and I only hope that he continues with pieces that challenge the mind and heart as this one has done. Do NOT miss this film!!
Movie Review: Uncompromising Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of the most uncompromising westerns I have ever see, one of the top ten ever made. John Cusack plays Myrl Redding, a stubborn headstrong man with a tough constitution. A man with pride and a strong sense of right and wrong. He wants nothing more than to be left to his own accord. He is a good neighbor, a good husband, a good father, a good man. He runs an honest business as a horse trader and his word is his bond. He is not afraid to stand up to anyone or anything he sees as unfair. He will speak his mind at the drop of a hat, he speaks the truth as he sees it. In the opening scene he runs into the territory's most powerful man, Henry Ballard, played by L.Q. Jones. Ballard is equally uncomprosing but not quite as moral. The interaction between these two uncompromising men in the opening scene sets the tone for things to come. Ballard takes an instant dislike to Redding. The line has been drawn in the sand. When Redding tries to move some horses to sell at auction he finds Ballard has bought more land and has put up a toll gate in his path. Without the toll Redding is forced to leave his two prize horses as collateral. Upon his return he finds his horses in a condition unlike that which he left them. Redding will have none of it and the fued begins. Across the territory of Wyoming the fued continues, to a beautifull backdrop. John Goodman gives a strong performance as the territorial judge, the Honorable Joe B. Toliver. Toliver is fair minded and tough. He wants to side with Redding in the dispute but doesn't know if the law will allow him. Is Toliver big enough to stop this fued as it snowballs? Is the Governor of the territory? The Attorney General? The U.S. Army? Watch and see. At outstanding, gritty movie. You'll love it!
Movie Review: Amazing Summary: 4 StarsI just finished watching this movie, and I have to say that John Cusack and John Goodman really shined in this movie. I have always been a Cusack fan, and the amount of presence that he had in this film keeps proving more and more to me that he is one of the finest actors in Hollywood today. Although Goodman was only in a part of the movie, he really took his part far and beyond, and made it his own. Kudos to Cusack, Goodman, and ensemble! The message of this film emulates one of the many countless efforts taken in the past to bring us to where we are. We can't take for granted what we have today, and perhaps we still need to strive for something more.
