Movie Reviews of The Invisible [Blu-ray]Movie Review: Pretty good for a teen flick... Summary: 4 StarsRedemption for past deeds is something that is dear to my heart. And the funny thing is, I really don't know why.
Maybe because I like to believe that there is good in pretty much everyone and someone atoning for wrong-doings, well there are few things that I like to see more than this.
Also, as the old saying goes, you can never judge a book by its cover. When you see a person, do you always judge them by the way they look or dress? Do you automatically assume, for example, if you see a man dressed in biker clothes that he's a criminal?
See, when it comes down to it, you can't judge a book by its cover. There is typically more to something than meets the eye. What if that person you see dressed like a biker just happens to be a real estate agent out for a ride, enjoying himself?
It can happen.
Take what you consider to be your typical young street thug. Dressed and acts tough, but what are the reasons behind the way they act? What is their home life like? Maybe, just maybe they're committing crimes not out of greed but the need to survive or take care of someone else?
Of course, these examples are just that, examples.
Anyhow, the movie the Invisible deals with both of these topics.
A young man named Nick, ready to graduate from High school lives with his widowed mother. She's domineering, and has pretty much planned out his life for him.
The upside is that he wants pretty much for naught. He has friends, and appears that he's respected by his peers.
Enter a young troubled girl named Annie. She's in and out of trouble with the law and is expelled regularly from School. Somehow she's managed to get a couple of the local tough's working along with her.
Throw in a friend of Nick's who owes Annie money for merchandise that he purchased from her.
Things get ugly and fast. Nick ends up getting framed for something that he didn't do and Annie takes it out on him. Nick is left for dead and then things get even more complicated.
Nick returns as a ghost. The twist is that he's not dead, not yet. He only has a limited time before his body does die, and somehow he has to find away to interact with the living world to make this happen.
He can see, feel and initially it appears that he can interact with the world around him, but he quickly discovers that when he changes something, the very next moment it's back to normal.
The problem is that after a while, the only one who seems to be able to hear him is the very person who left him for dead. The young street thug named Annie.
Here we have what I was talking about. Nick seems like the perfect young man, but he has a darker, a seedier side, albeit minor, where as Annie looks like a pure criminal who doesn't care about anyone or anything, and doesn't give a damn what her actions - rash actions - end up costing her.
For your average Teen movie, the acting was pretty good. I felt anger towards the characters, and sympathy as well. Also, it gives a glimpse into the lives of people, showing the viewer that things are not always as they appear on the surface.
Maybe as I grow older, I'm no longer able to control my emotions the way did in my younger years. Who knows.
Still, I enjoyed the movie.
There weren't too many additional features, just 13 minutes of deleted scenes that helped advance the plot a little, but most of these were nothing more than filler. There were also a pair of music videos to watch.
The soundtrack had a lot of music on it that I personally like, preferring rock to pop. It featured songs by A Perfect Circle, Snow Patrol and Remy zero.
There were a couple of glaring errors in continuity, but as usual, nothing that really detracted from my overall enjoyment of this flick. Shame that I didn't catch it in the Theater.
Finally, the ending was well shot and quite emotional. Another reason I enjoyed the movie.
4 out of 5.
Movie Review: boring, no-one to care about Summary: 1 StarsWell, actually, you feel kind of bad for the kid brother. But you don't care about anyone else. Boring, implausible, etc.
Movie Review: Glimpses of the Good and the Bad Summary: 3 StarsHigh school and a need for anger management take center stage as a group of teenage guys, one really angry teenage girl, and something really bad combines to tell a story about pain and the need to embrace life. The back of the movie touts the word ghost, too, but I think the words "ethereal presence" captures much more of the feel and I'll leave it like that.
The plot hinges way too much on one or two things and giving out plot points would ruin the film for those who watch it. If you plan on watching it, be careful what you read about the film.
In The Invisible, a chain of events sets something in motion that ALMOST went far enough to be amazing but came up short because it did a few things wrong. First, the movie seemed to go too long without much of a reason. There was a lot of repetitive interaction in the movie, trying to drive home a point it makes when the story really gets going, and that goes from tragic to outright annoying. The acting in it was good, too, and that made this all-the-more difficult to swallow. I enjoyed our male and female lead, the way she played out her anger, and the way he conveyed emotion. Sill, the event swallowed the whole movie and she needed too much from something that did not really fit her character. Second, there seems to be more promised by the movie than the movie actually delivers. When I first saw the touch of violence and the interpersonal world of our two main characters I really felt their plights, but the droning of the characters made me pray for their demise. Perhaps that is a sign that the movie needs to end or perhaps it is a sign that the ending is not up to par. Whatever the reason, the movie lost me. Lastly, the ending was good to a point but the path leading to it was not worth the time it took to get there. I liked parts of this movie enough to say that I liked I and, when reviewing it, I was conflicted. It was a good watch one time but it was so inherently flawed it could not be ignored.
Sad, really, because it had me for most of the movie.
I can not really say that you should not watch the movie, but I can say that the middle equates to some fast-forwarding because twenty minutes of it needed to be invisible. If you watch it you will see what I mean, and you'll wonder why they did not film something else to take u that portion of the film. The odd thing is that anything would have done; there were plenty of other characters in the cinematic sea and, honestly, all of them had something to say.
The problem was not what was said, however, but more like it was said by a skipping record.
Proceed with caution.
Movie Review: Different type of ghost story Summary: 4 StarsThis is a different type of ghost story that's also a great thriller. A teen who is beaten and left for dead in the woods finds himself in a 'limbo' state of being. He's not truly dead...yet, but if he doesn't get someone to get his semi-comatose body help soon he will be completely dead. The problem is the only one who can hear him in his ghostly form is the girl who tried to beat him to death in the first place. A good twist on a supernatural tale.

Movie Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 StarsThe previews looked great, but the movie was very slow and uninteresting at times. Toward the end it picked up a bit, but overall I felt that it was a waste of money. I won't watch it again! Not a movie to buy!
