Movie Reviews of The Invisible [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: Rather Predictable
Summary: 3 Stars

In this overly drawn out and obviously predictable movie Nick(Justin Chatwin) takes the blame for something that he didn't do only to be beaten nearly to death and while in this limbo state he wanders through his life invisible to others and trying to solve his own assault before he truly dies. Of course in the mean time, he has to save his best friend Pete, the girl that almost killed him and his very frosty mother played wonderfully by Marcia Gay Harden. Not the worst 2 hours that I have spent, but I don't want to do it again.

Movie Review: CORNY & UNBELIEVABLE B.S !!!
Summary: 1 Stars

How can anyone make so many careless mistakes when filming a movie? Bullet wounds jump from one side of the body to the other, a gunshot victim runs a marathon race against police and seemingly gets better with each chase scene, nurses in a hospital look up and ignore a bleeding girl who is being slapped by a distraught mother in an intensive care unit the list goes on. After a while, it gets ridiculously funny. Is this supposed to be a comedy? The final straw came when the wounded girl crawls onto the dying boy's hospital bed, which of course no one sees or prevents from happening. Remind me never to go to that hospital! The careful craft of a supernatural thriller, like The Sixth Sense, is nowhere to be found in this flawed endeavor. Director David Goyer should be ashamed.

Movie Review: Serious Teen Drama's Near Miss
Summary: 4 Stars

Suprisingly, this is a rather serious attempt to make a crime drama with, concidentally, teens. Too bad the male lead is wrong for the part. We needed to empathize with him, and the actor is a bland cipher. The female lead, on the other hand, is excellent. Too bad she wasn't in a better overall film. Still, this is pretty solid, so I recommend it anyway with its flaws (another being that it is too dour and serious - the first half hour could have been much lighter). Face it, you don't have many other decent teen dramas to turn to anyway.

Movie Review: Teen Thriller Appealed to Me
Summary: 5 Stars

I really liked this movie. The setting in a misty northwestern Seattle-like town was great and expertly set the tone. A moody musical score with supporting music from punk/alternative bands was also good. I identified with the main character. I liked that he had personal aspirations and was willing to stand up to those close to him that discouraged his efforts. He also stood up against the high school gangsters for his weak little buddy. The guy was just cool.

The Invisible had a good mix of action and drama. Maybe the thing that turned most people off was the general somber mood and lonely feel. There are only a few core characters and other than the high school scenes most scenes only involve one or two characters. However the acting is good and the writer and director likely meant this to contribute to the mood of the film.

I may be one of the few Amazon voices that thought this show rocked, but consider giving it a whirl. It might just appeal to you like it did to me.

Movie Review: worth the rental and a good one to watch with your teenager
Summary: 4 Stars

My wife had no interest in seeing this, feeling the premise in the trailer was dumb, "a ghost must help solve his own murder".

If this were only the case then I'd agree, but its not.

Okay, the supernatural spin does come across as a bit hokey (minus 1 star).

Yet I found myself pleasantly surprised by this flick. I watch a lot of films and comment on only the few that move me on a level more than pure entertainment. This is one of those movies.

Many of a younger generation will relate with intense spectrum of feelings the characters portray in here. But beyond teen angst, there is a deeper message. Few movies these days can actually be used to drive conversation with teenagers and I think this is one of them.

At first I thought the movie wasn't going to be much, but then the deepening of the characters and the true message started to shine through and continued to the very end.

2/3rds of the way through I had no idea what was going to happen. Closer to the end it became obvious but it no more dampened the suspense of the plot line. I sat on the edge of my chair hoping certain events would transpire and was satisfied with the ending.

Much better than the director's efforts with Blade: Trinity. The pace is kept up and each time I thought I'd start to fade in attention a new piece of the puzzle is given or a character deepened.

The cast was well selected for the role and well acted.

But understand this, the movie though good, is not in the league as Donnie Darko. Then again this movie is a lot easier to follow than Darko.

OVERALL:
My wife who had no desire to watch it would still give it a 2.5 star after seeing it and being drawn into the story. I got more out of it and thus bump it up to a 4 star. It's worth watching for sure!
