Movie Reviews of The Hurricane

Movie Review: Ignore the backlash, marvel at one of todays best actors.
Summary: 5 Stars

That Mr.washington was again only nominated for an Oscar, and not the recpient is a shame. This movie was wonderful from go, and those who qubble over the legal details and law officer portrayal need to step back and watch the movie unfold. Mr.Washington is intense and convincing as Mr.Carter, and I was impressed with the depth of changes he convayed as the film went on. Moreover, the brief boxing scenes look, sound, and feel more real than any boxing movie ever made, save for Raging Bull. The plot is spliced into many parts because the real story is just as intricate. Did the director ignore some facts and embelish others? More than likely, however this is BASED on a true story, not a documentary on Mr.Carters life. If those who quibble feel so strong about the left outs, than why is there no foul cry about the lack of prison life portrayed. Surely that was a sorrid way to go through 20 odd years of your life, yet Carter is portrayed with the right mix of hope, dignity, and bitterness by Mr.Washington. Buy this movie for all it does right, and it will lift your spirit.

Movie Review: Great movie...
Summary: 5 Stars

Before this movie I didn't have a clue who "The Hurricane" was. I watched this movie to find out who he was and because I read great reviews on Denzel Washington's performance. The reviews were definitely on point along with the Oscar nomination he recieved (which he should've won). Denzel Washington's acting was superb. The movie is about a boxer who went to prison wrongfully accused of murder, who then was helped to freedom by a young man and his Canadian tutors after reading his autobiography which "Hurricane" wrote while he was in prison. Hurricane was another black man who had no luck in the US Justice system and didn't recieve a fair trial until the case went to federal court where all the lies were uncovered and the truth set free. This was a wonderful movie. It made me cry and also angry at the injustice and also the racism. I was elated when "Hurricane" was released from a trying time in prison. This movie will be around for a while and maybe become a classic.

Movie Review: death penalty advocates wake up and rent this!
Summary: 5 Stars

I think its a great movie about the true story of a man wrongfully imprisoned from a young age and again in adulthood by the justice system through the influence of a cop with a racist grudge. It shows how one man with a grudge can influence and taint the justice system. Today people are still wrongfully convicted some on death row . Anyone with career ambitions of becoming a district attorney should see this movie. Because all it takes even today is a district attorney willing to bury evidence, stand by coerced confessions to achieve a conviction to further his or her career. Great argument for why the death penalty is wrong. I like the quote, although I cant remember its origins. "May a thousand guilty men go free, than the injustice of one innocent man being convicted." If a death penalty advocate disagrees with that they should first check out the "INNOCENSE PROJECT" online and read about the work they do and have done. [...]

Movie Review: The theme of Transcendence is important--not the "factual debates about Rubin Carter ."
Summary: 5 Stars

I was very touched by this movie. It was not the actual story/plot, or it's accuracy that was important to me. Rather, what was meaningful about this film was the portrayal of a personal Transcendence the main character brings about in his life--from rage, hate, and bitterness, to self caring, willingness to learning, inner directedness, to a sense of spirituality and something "bigger than himself," to forgiveness and "letting go," and then the untimate Transcendence--reaching out, risking trusting others with his core pain, and risking loving others. Also, this film portrays some very rare people who demonstrate commitment to their principles, determination to care about "the individual" and to rectifying an injustice. I do not know whether or not Rubin Carter murdered those people. From my stand point, this is a movie that models personal healing. It is touching and inspirational--even if it were to turn out to be total fiction.

Movie Review: The ingrediants of an Epic
Summary: 5 Stars

What happens when you mix: A great script, a heartbreaking and epic true story, and the best acting of Denzel Washington's career... Well here it is.

This movie is the true story of a boxer who was wrongly imprisioned based on race descrimination. In prision, he spends a big chunk of his life. With the help of a young man, and three Canadian activists, Rubin "The Hurricane" Carter is once again brought to trial. The young man and his friends are on a mission to set the Hurricane free.

This movie is a pure example of fine storytelling, which is all a movie needs to be down-right great. There are no special effects here, or fast paced editing, just a serious heartwarming story that is hard not to enjoy. Plus with the DVD you get an EXTENSIVE list of features.

The Hurricane said it best: "Hate got me in here, love is gonna bust me out." Most Highly Reccomended.
