Movie Reviews of The HungerMovie Review: A fine DVD rendering Summary: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of the movie for years. I have seen good movies made unwatchable by bad transfers but this is not the case. It has been Digitaly augmented by Scott himself who owned an original print of the film. It is shown in Letterbox and this inproves the picture quality as many a film critic will undestand.
It has a nice Picture Gallery track in the Features section as well as the original Theatrical trailer. But for me the best of the special features is an Audio Track by Tony Scott and Susan Sarandon. I expected both Scott and Sarandon adress the sexuality of the piece and the kind of behind the scene information on location shoots and other such gems that allow you to visit the real thought processes that went into this film.
Scott is not a smooth talker by any means but he is slightly less condesending then his Brother and Susan Sarandon shows her sence of humor and knowlege of the art of the craft of acting all during her commentary.
I have been waiting for this DVD for some time and I had a sneaking feeling that It might be dissapointing after so many years but the extras and the well transfered print make it so much more then I could hope for.

Movie Review: haute couture blood suckers rock! Summary: 5 Stars
Tony scott's stunning directorial debut makes the most of his background in filming commercials. Imagine the haughty images from the most rarified french couture houses mixed in with a splash of vampire blood and a lusty triangle of omnisexual predators. Throw in the darkest, most seductively violent punk rock track alternating with the most elegant classical and you have an amazing atmosphere worth dying for. No one can wear a veiled cocktail hat or pose their mannequin-like face quite like Deneuve (since Dietrich) or play the icy glamour queen of the night . Bowie is perfect as one of her (many, many) elegant ,devoted lovers facing sudden decay and abandonment. Sarandon holds her own against these legendary style icons as she falls deeper into Deneuve's dangerous web. The scenes where Deneuve is "courting" and finally seducing Sarandon is something to behold. Perfect editing with style and drama to spare. A vampire tale involving rabid lab-monkeys, an ancient Egyptian blood thirsty queen,an 80's manhattan swinging couple , a male prostitute, the search for everlasting love and life and lots of angular, black and white high fashion straight out of any 1980's Italian Vogue.
Movie Review: FEAST! Summary: 5 Stars
FINALLY ON DVD ! ONE OF THE MOST ELEGANT AND startling movies ever made about 'Vampires' rivalled perhaps by 'Interview with a Vampire'?DENEUVE, BOWIE, SARANDON trio in this forbidden tale of superior elegance and [give or take] possibly one of the most sensual scenes on screen ever seen [between Deneuve and Sarandon]. Trouble is Deneuve is this ancient vampire - the embodyment of elegance and culture - she takes a lover every two hundred years - seems they last briefly - like cut flowers - then age rapidly but don't die. So into the coffin with the remains .... so she has quite an entourage of sarcophogi stashed upstairs in her New York pad. She also selectively teaches music - perhaps selecting another mate? Bowie is the current companion - suddenly stricked by 'the age' -Sarandon is the doc. specilizing in the 'reason behind age' .... Sarandon slowly discovers the secret ...... This one's a guilty pleasure - worth watching over and over again - splendid cinematopgraphy [very hazy], artsy costumes, and a great classical score to boot. Rivalled only by DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS - another super elegant piece of wit with Delphine Seyrige [could be Deneuve's double!] Watch out for those ANKH's though!
Movie Review: Rich and elegant Summary: 5 Stars
This film decisively breaks the mold set for "vampire movies." Catherine Deneuve brings elegance, David Bowie brings style, and Susan Sarandon brings skill and depth. The movie is very much about the people, it's about control and trust.
The storytelling is a bit vague at times, but that's OK. The movie carries itself in its imagery. The nightclub in the first scene, a bizarre transformation in a furnace, and of course the seduction - wonderful scenes, even if taken in isolation. Bowie and Deneuve, promising "forever," put an additional chill into the first scene of his coffin.
I find it hard to describe this movie - the action is subdued but meaningful. The visual styling has subtlety, something I appreciate more after seeing other movies that lack it.
I like this one. I have trouble saying just why, but it's one I'll come back to, again and again.

Movie Review: Visually stunning and seductive Summary: 5 Stars
After almost 20 years, this film still holds it's on in the modern world. Catherine Denueve is one of, if not, the most beautiful women alive. So brilliant and sweet and sexy....stunning. David Bowie plays his part perfectly following Miriam around for 100's of years only to find that his "forever and ever" is only temporary.
And the erotic scene between Catherine and Susan Surandon....just another example of scene after scene of dark seduction and whispers (or were they warnings) from beyond the grave.
The Hunger is one of the most amazing movies. It made such a huge impact on me when I saw it at the fresh, raw age of 18. Still, to this day, it flows as if it were taking you on a wonderful, dangerous and sometime brutal journey through time.
This is a classic's classic.
