Movie Reviews of The HolidayMovie Review: Enjoyable Flick Summary: 5 Stars
After coming home this weekend from seeing the latest romantic comedy at the box office (which will remain unnamed), I must say this made up for the $6 I blew at the show yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed this lighthearted movie of four people struggling with love coming into their own realizations that finally lead them to those kind of individuals that bring out the best in them as human beings.
I'm not much of a Cameron Diaz fan, but I thought she was great. Kate Winslet was wonderful as well, totally unpretentious in character, which I found surprising. Jude Law is to die for, as usual. Jack Black was finally in a serious role. Good flick, not filled with cursing and the usual nudity that Hollywood thinks makes a good movie, which in fact, it takes away from the emotion, struggles, and ultimate outcomes that are more important. I found it enjoyable indeed, probably because I relate to the struggles of women who stick with men that are frankly a waste of time.
Movie Review: Sometimes Corny is OK Summary: 5 Stars
"The Holiday" is the kind of film that will stand the test of time and has the potential to be a Christmas perennial. A real cynic could dismiss this charming flick. How can you dislike a film that cites the moxy of Irene Dunne and the genius of Ennio Morricone? Give director-writer Nancy Myers kudos for having the chutzpah to reference classic old movies and making one that doesn't compare unfavorably to them. Also cite the film's top-flight cast(Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Jack Black) who give sincere performances that bely schmaltz. Eli Wallach nearly steals the show here as an aged Hollywood screenwriter who Winslet befriends. I initially saw this film after a ragged day of Christmas shopping with my wife. I liked it well enough but the waterworks were going with my wife. It's on a second viewing that the film really grew on me and convinced me of it's staying power.
Movie Review: superb Summary: 5 Stars
This movie introduced me to Jude Law and it was simply amazing...
I agree with all the positive reviews and I am just going to reiterate that this is such a enjoyable film and although its quite long I never got bored and have seen it several times...Cameron is her usual adorable self and I was so pleased to see Kate winslet do a comedy role...she was so delightful and should do more of those light hearted movies...and Jude Law was so gorgeous, endearing, his acting so natural and believable and so utterly charming in his role...I ahve seen several of his films after The Holiday and I am so mesmerized at his range and super talent...I am so glad that I have discovered him as an actor...for his super fans I highly recommend seeing his earlier film Wilde, Cold Mountain and ofcourse Alfie...that gorgeous Brit is super and unmatchable in looks, appeal and talent...
Movie Review: see again and again and again and again and again...... Summary: 5 Stars
when casting actors who are so well known in other films it can sometimes be difficult for the viewer to detach them for their other work however this is not the case for jude law, jack black, cameron diaz and kate winslet. their performances were so convincing that i was riveted from start to finsh. not being able to hide behind an american accent must have been a daunting prospect for law and winslet but they pulled it off with ease. i was curious to see jack black in a "serious" role but the connection with music in the film and his jolly antics never let me forget who he really was. the part of amanda was so perfect for diaz - as a wealthy bussiness woman but yet couldn't boil an egg.
the jokes were hilarious and perfectly timed, a film that could make you cry with laughter and with sorrow. the holiday is definately my favourite film of 2006
Movie Review: Cute love story movie!! Summary: 5 Stars
I adore this movie! Amanda (Diaz) just broke up with her boyfriend and looking for somewhere to go on her Christmas vacation and luckily she stumbles onto this house in England who in turn Iris (Winslet) is wanting to do the exact same thing founding out that the man she has been in love with just got engaged and didnt love her. So the two women switch lives and Amanda finding how quiant the little cottage that Iris owns is quite cute in turn she finds out that Iris's brother Graham (Law) is cuter. Yet back in Califorina getting used to it all along with meeting some nice neighbors she stumbles upon Miles (Black) who is dating an actress Maggie who in fact ends up breaking his heart but honestly this movie is just a very cute, touching love story from start to finish but you'll have to see the rest of the movie in order to find out what happens.
