Movie Reviews of The HolidayMovie Review: I love it Summary: 5 Stars
I can't help but say this is my FAVORITE movie and that I absolutely love it. ever since I got this, I've been watching it almost everyday, except when I had to study for my college final exams. It's amazing that I enjoy it no matter what mood I'm in. It's heart-warming when I'm sad, stress-relieving when I'm angry (especially with Amanda's scenes), and also simply enjoyable in a normal mood. If you're a romantic comedy lover, I strongly recommend you to watch this. If you're a person who loves movies like The Prince and Me, A Walk to Remember, Roman Holiday, JUST WATCH IT.
I was actually surprised (and not surprised) that Nancy Meyers, the director, was the same director of The Parent Trap (1998). I used to love that movie, and watched that over and over when I was younger. Her movies are so sweet, romantic, and they describe women's hearts so well. The conversations in the movies are pretty realistic too, so they don't feel like they only happen in movies.
Okay, I guess I got overly excited about this movie <The Holiday>.. but I must say it again, I love it. I absolutely do :)
Movie Review: Classic Romantic Comedy Summary: 5 Stars
If you like Serendipity, Notting Hill, The Princess Bride and/or Sleepless in Seattle you will love this movie. It is worth the money to own it, since I have watched and rewatched it many many times. It is a staple in my Christmas Month of Movies.
Kate Winslet is always endearing and powerful as an actress. Her character here is no different. You love her for not being able to leave the futile relationship and her friendship-turned-love relationship with the always enjoyable Jack Black is one to mirror your life on. Cameron Diaz is "okay" (And I say that with a shrug of the shoulders and a tip of the head.) She never wows me. But here she shares the screen with the effortlessly talented Jude Law which makes their love story one not to miss. He is handsome with a capitol H! And charming as only an Englishman can be.
This movie will make you smile laugh and cry those wonderful tears of movie joy. It will remind you why romantic comedies are an enduring genre and it will remind you that love is possible, even when it looks like all you want to do is cury your head in the covers.
Movie Review: The movie "The Holiday" Summary: 5 Stars
I loved, loved, loved this movie. It's main theme are 2 women, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet who exchange homes during the Christmas holiday to escape painful relationships. I think that everybody can relate to the love stories by the 4 main characters in this movie, Jack Black and Jude Law are the men they meet in their new locations who are having their own problems (aren't we all). The house exchanges are between Surrey, England and Los Angeles. I thought that the plot was unique which is so hard because "it's all been done". I like how the characters come together and relate to others they meet in this movie. It's just a sweet story. No intrigue or violence which is a nice change too. I watch it to relax. I was pleasently surprised that Jack Black's romantic lead was very good and believable. I've never seen him in a realistic (not silly or spastic) romantic role. But don't get me wrong, there is a lot of humor too. Watch it, you won't be sorry. Might be a kind of "chick flick" though, Maybe! Oh yeah, Eli Wallachs role is very loveable and fits into the plot nicely and adds a new dimension.
Movie Review: Surprisingly Fabulous Summary: 5 Stars
Romantic comedies have the unfortunate habit of being formulaic to the point of being boring. Not so with The Holiday. There is some formula here, however, or it wouldn't be a romantic comedy.
The casting is superb: Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, Jude Law, Rufus Sewell, and Eli Wallach. The acting is top notch, and I don't often find myself thinking that about Cameron Diaz or Jack Black (sorry!) Perhaps it's the outstanding script and direction of Nancy Meyers that brings out the best in everyone. Maybe this cast just happens to have the right chemistry together. Ultimately, it doesn't matter why. What matters is that this is one fantastic movie. Believable characters, believable situations, and the right dash of hope, feel-good optimism, and light-hearted humor that can really make a romantic comedy not just good, but great!
Even the score seems perfect. It adds just enough to each scene, but never too much.
Lest you think it's strictly a chick flick. My husband watched it with me once and said "I can see why you like this movie so much, it's a good film."
Movie Review: Best Romantic Comedy Of 2006! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I are weekly movie goers; this results in our viewing of almost every movie released to the big screen during the year. This was by far the best romantic comedy I saw all year long, I even saw it twice! Although I'm not a huge fan of Cameron Diaz the true stars of the movie are Kate Winslet and Jude Law, also quite easy on the eyes. The story is refreshingly different from the recent drones of scripts coming from Hollywood this past year which have made me question my occupation, perhaps I should become a scriptwriter; they are apparently accepting any written word this year! The soundtrack was fantastic; I have already preordered my copy. The only dissapointment is the studios late release of the soundtrack which should have been simultaneous with the movie release. I'm not normally a fan of Jack Black but this movie made me want to take him home, he was both humorous and adorable. In addition to THE HOLIDAY another must see movie of the year is LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE. If THE HOLIDAY is still playing in theatres in your area don't miss seeing it on the big screen.
