Movie Review: THE HOLIDAY - BRILLIANT - BRILLIANT .... AND SOOOO ROMANTIC
Summary: 5 Stars

LOOOOOVED this film - absolutely loved it ... everyone was cast superbly well with a beautiful rendition of the lives of two separate couples on two separate countries was AB FAB. Loved all the British sayings and acronyms used and how they perfectly fit in the story - as well as the development of the characters and how well their stories flowed and intertwined...

Two stories that are parallel and depict two separate triumphs of the heart after terrible circumstances that have left some of the characters more than bruised and scathingly hurt with a less than a favorable light toward romance - There are so many schmucks out there - of the male and female form that when people come together despite their cultural experiences and the miles that separate them it is wonderful to see their stories flower and blossom. Not just a chick flick - as my guy loved it and thought that it was a funny and touching story - I loved the character development and the idyllic locations - the cottage in Surrey is magical and ethereal in its winter splendor (and yes, it is really like that in England as I have stayed in a place just like it in Brighton!!) and Amanda's lavish Beverly Hills home is to die for ... Jack Black is absolutely funny and just as gorgeous as Jude Law (yum!). I adored Elli Wallach's role as the retired and elderly film producer - and all the mention of old movies - which is what Hollywood was all about.. Like Barbara Stanwyck in The Lady Eve!!! Wallach is one of my all time favorite western dudes - in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!!! All in all - a marvelous film and one that has quickly become one of my favorites to date!

Movie Review: Best Holiday Movie of 2006
Summary: 5 Stars

If you love Christmas-themed movies and romantic comedies, this offers you the best of both. Add a star-studded cast, glorious scenery, excellent writing, and you have a real holiday treat.

Kate Winslet is at her most vulnerable as the office worker desperately in love with a co-worker who has bedded her for three years yet announces his engagement to another co-worker at the annual Christmas party. Cameron Diaz, never a favorite of mine, does an excellent job of portraying the wealthy Beverly Hills woman who owns her own production company that delivers all those "Coming Attractions" for movie publicity. Alas, her love life is centered on a two-timing hunk.

When both women feel they can't take it any more, they find each other through an internet house-swapping site. Iris (Winslet) swaps her picture-perfect English cottage in the charming village of Surrey for Amanda's (Diaz) ultra-plush Beverly Hills mansion. Both are enthralled with the change of scenery and adapt in varying degrees to their new situations. Enter Graham (Jude Law) who unaware his sister Iris has up and gone, romances Amanda though he does hide a very big part of his life from her. On the American side, Miles (Jack Black, thankfully toned down) a colleague of Amanda's comes looking for her and finds Iris. Eli Wallach gives a beautiful performance as Iris' befuddled Beverly Hills neighbor and introduces her to Hanukah celebrations.

Love is in the air and although no one will be surprised at the happily-ever-after ending, you'll enjoy immensely the thrill of getting there.

Movie Review: Falling in Love at Christmas
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an interesting movie about four people falling in love at Christmas.

Iris played by Kate Winslet is in love with Jasper who works at the same newspaper she does. They had been involved with each other and Iris still holds out hope that they will get back together. That is until she finds out that Jasper is engaged to be married to the woman that he cheated on her with. This leads her to be depressed. She wants to get away and list her house on a home exchange.

Amanda who is a L.A. Movie trailer designer just broke up with her live in boyfriend and also wants to get away. She sees Iris' ad and they decide to switch houses for two weeks during the holidays.

Iris loves L.A. and Amanda's house. During the time that she spends there she meets Arthur (played by Eli Wallach) an old Hollywood Producer and they become close as he tells her things about old Hollywood and she helps him regain some mobility so he can walk up the stairs at a reception in his honor. She also meets Miles (Jack Black) who is a composer who worked with Amanda's ex. As they spend time together they realize that there is a spark between them.

Amanda does not like England so much at first. She is cold and board and shortly after she gets there she buys a return flight home. Then she meets Iris' brother Graham played by Jude Law. They end up having sex and after spending time together Amanda realizes that she is falling in love with him.

A very good-feel good movie.

Movie Review: Adorable and Sexy
Summary: 5 Stars

Sit down with a blanket and good friends and enjoy this fun, sexy chick flick. The story and acting is undeniably sugary sweet, but it is so easy to enjoy, that the time flies by.

Two women swap houses to escape desperately broken love lives and, as can only be expected, encounter romance upon their vacations. One lives in England (in an adorable cottage with an adorable dog) but a hapless one sided love affair leaves her depressed and alone for Christmas. Another woman, intimidating in her career success, breaks up with a cheating boyfriend right before the holidays. The two happen to find each other (which is rather good luck, you must admit) and swap houses immediately. Winslet comes to Diaz's huge palace of a house and stops being the "best friend" in her movie, but actually becomes the "heroine" and Diaz finds by far the sexiest man in the world to soften her hard, career driven exterior.

Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Jack Black, and Cameron Diaz shine (though Diaz seemed to deliver the worst performance). Both Law and Black sparkle in their first romance films, winning the audience with their charming smiles. Law is impecabbly sexy and Black incredibly cute.

While the film is rather long (138 minutes) I found myself enjoying every second of it, falling in love with both stories, and the substories, the cottages, the dog, the accents, everything. It was an enjoyable dessert of a movie, and your eyes and heart are sure to be pleased.

Movie Review: Holiday ... Celebrate
Summary: 5 Stars

Madonna sang once "holiday, celebrate, if you took a holiday, some time to celebrate, it would be ..it would be so nice." Holiday is more than nice, it is superb romantic comedy, about two modern ladies who do the geographic cure by swapping houses to get over broken hearts.

Iris is a London journalist who is in love with Jasper, a selfish columnist who is engaged but wants to have his cake and eat it too. Amanda is a Hollywood trailer producer who just ended yet another relationship with her cheating semi live-in boyfriend. When the two women connect on a house swap site to get away from it all they find themselves in unexpected romances.

Once they arrive at their polar opposite locations love finds them. Iris connects with film score composer Miles whose as decent as Jasper is awful. Iris also befriends a legendary Hollywood writer named Arthur who tells her to be the leading lady by having her watch movie of strong women characters.

Amanda falls head over heels with Iris' brother Graham whose nursing his own broken heart after being left a widowed single father. As they live two different lives the ladies find parts of themselves that had gone missing a long time ago.

A similar movie with an almost identical plot line is Tara Road starring Andie MacDowell.
